I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've posted two replies and they keep disappearing. I'm so confused.

Welcome! This site uses some automated anti-spam filters that are extra harsh on new members. If your posts contained links, that might have done it. Once you've successfully posted a few more times the problems should go away.

New to Skoolies and Starting My Conversion

Hey All!

I'm Nick. My wife and I bought a project bus to convert earlier this year and I'm really excited to join the community. Our bus is a 1990 Chevy S7 with an 8.2L DD and an AT545. I've heard some pretty terrible things about the powertrain setup so far, but I'm excited about the challenge as we aim to complete our conversion by the end of 2024. We are located in Englewood, CO, and can't wait to travel the continental US after our daughter wraps up high school in the near future.

Hey everyone!
My wife and I just bought our first bus. Not a skoolie per se, but a retired transit bus. A D40lf. That’s diesel, 40 feet, low floor new flyer. Most of the demo is done, and we’ve started the conversion. It’s getting 12k watts of solar, fed by 30x8 feet of panels. A 12k btu mini split with a ducted unit. A larger than king bed in the back, cassette toilet, standing shower, lots of stainless steel, keeping most of the windows, and everything from the rear door forward is below counter.
There are unique challenges with this bus, like having ZERO under floor space. But it’ll be a fun project! The budget isn’t huge at only 30k, but we’ve got two years to do it.
Looking forward to learning about the skoolie community

Mike.

Oh man....I thought this post was by a 10 y/o! Had to read it twice.
Initial thought: Now that there is an ambitious kid! God bless the parents!

You're in the right place for information and help!

Finding a bus for us was rather a part-time thing. I kept my eyes on a couple auction sites and sure enough, one showed up that we wanted.
GovDeals.com and PublicSurplus.com are a couple of my favorites.
There are a lot of other sites as well....info on this one if ya search I imagine.

Happy hunting!

Send many pics! We love pictures, even of the most obscure parts of the bus. Undercarriage, engine shots, interrior, roofs, we love it all!

Hello from S. Florida

Husband and I are new to the Skooli world. Learning all we can from YouTube channels and the internet. We are shopping for bus for our conversion project and would appreciate tips on how to inspect a rig that's offered in an online auction. Is there a thread on this topic?

Welcome to the Skoolie dream! Get ready for a long and interesting journey!

To answer you question on how to inspect, in person versus video is the best way. But I have bought 2 busses blind at auction and got lucky both times, no-pre-inspections!

Here is a thread that has a link to a pre-purchase checklist.
https://www.skoolie.net/forums/f27/p...ist-28013.html

One of the biggest considerations is RUST ! that is the first thing to look at. No rust, light rust to "how is it still holding together" rust!

Then there is the engine-tranny combo consideration.

Best thing to do is to start a new thread as this thread is basically not used for "Conversations".

What part of South Florida you guys from?

Hi Bus Crazy! Thanks for the welcome and the link! We are in Palm Beach county. It's not surprising so many people start the journey and give up! There is a ton to learn and know! But instead of spending our bucks on a drivable RV, we are set on investing in a skoolie instead. Right now we are trying to learn from so many others what options we have for the motor of our future home away-from-home and the best place to look for and buy it!

Hey, We just got our first bus and are stoked to get to work on it. We just got a 2004 rear engine International 3000 with a T444e and a MD3060. She is a 10 window, and right at 32 feet.

Congrats Sourpickle! Great engine/trans combo! I have two buses and a truck with the 7.3 (T444E). I don't have that trans but it has two overdrives I believe.
