Depends on your definition of "fortune". An oil change is typically measured by the gallon. Tires are $1600 a set for chinese no-name generics.
But the engines are usually pretty simple and there's plenty of info out there. Educate yourself on school bus engines and figure out what you want/need in a bus. You CAN do it.
