New Skoolie near Columbus!

Hello everybody! I’ve been lurking on the site and others for a while researching what it takes to build a skoolie. I found this 2002 Bluebird with 42k miles on Craigslist and decided to make the leap! My wife and I own a seasonal campground in Sunbury Oh so we decided to do a bit of warm weather traveling in the winter months. We wanted to make something our own style so we decided on a skoolie! I will try to use the search as much as possible but I’ll be picking your brains from time to time (:

Nice! We've got a few members in your area.

Do you own a KOA?

Yes, we own the one here in Sunbury. I didn’t know if it was appropriate to actually post the name of our campground. I don’t want to seem like were trying to advertise ourselves here!

Yours is probably the only KOA in existence that's let a Skoolie in!
Welcome to the nut house.

I don't see a problem. A lot of folks say KOA won't let em in with a skoolie. Do you allow converted school buses?

Of course we allow skoolies! I didn’t know they were discriminated against! I’m going to have to ask about that at our fall conference. I know most campgrounds(ours included) have an age limit on full time seasonal members. We don’t have any restrictions that I can think of that would keep a skoolie out as an overnight/weekend camper.

The biggest problem I had when full timing in my first bus was not that it was a bus. What kept me out of a number of parks Was The age. I converted a 15 year old bus. I found a number of places that have restrictions on rigs 10 or 15 years old.

Steve! I almost read your entire build thread! I learned how to bypass the vandelock system through your build! I appreciate that! I went ahead and preemptively knocked that out today and also removed all of the seats. I am not excited for all of these rivets o: My neighbor offered to help and seems pretty confident we can “get er knocked out in a couple of hours.” I won’t be able to work on the bus anymore until Sunday when everybody leaves the campground.
