Damn! It doesn't continue until there are no more bids? That's crazy.

If bids are placed in the last few minutes of the auction it automatically extends in order to prevent "sniping". Last moment bidding to try and grab the item.

With the "auto bidding" functionality you can establish a budget, bid that amount and the system will increment your bid up as others bid until you win or hit your max and get outbid by someone else.

As far as I can tell, sniping is a thing of the past on sites like Public Surplus and GovDeals.

However, I learned about this computer program that one can download which helps someone win the auction by entering a bid in the last five seconds.
I'm convinced that's how these people won.
The first bus, 71, which is the one that we really wanted.. I'll admit, I was having a bit of anxiety and didn't have the whole system down.
But 75, which was our second choice, someone who hadn't bid at all, beat me in the last four seconds. And I was on top of it.
Not sure if the auction thing is really for me. Was seriously bummed.
Just having faith that there's a reason why we didn't get those busses...
Still searching.
Sniping isn't as applicable to non-Ebay sites. You can still try, but most have an auto extension.

Govdeals and PublicSurplus give the seller the choice whether to auto-extend the auction, or give it a hard cut-off time. The first buses I bid on had the hard cut off and I was sniped on both. Wise sellers *should* enable the auto extend.

I search for new listings. When I find something I like I bid what in my mind is the maximum I'd personally pay for said bus, then leave it be. If anyone wants to pay more than its worth to me, let em have it!
