New to the site & hoping to learn from everyone

Hi folks, I am a retired guy who is slowly convincing my wife that this may be a great way for us to enjoy retirement. I have not bought a bus yet but it will happen this year probably sooner rather than later. I had also toyed with the idea of converting an ambulance and as of yet have not ruled that out completely.
My first question would apply to either venture and although I am certain the answer is out there somewhere I have yet to find it.
Assuming just for the sake of the question that I buy a school bus in Virginia and need to get it back to Alabama, what is needed in order to make it legal to drive the bus home. Do I need to register and insure the bus in Virginia or can I pick up a temporary drive permit? I will want to insure the bus before driving it anywhere, what has been the best way to get insurance for the trip?
Any and all help will be appreciated.
Thank you all very much.

Check with your current auto insurance provider.

In many cases your coverage on existing vehicles will automatically extend to new purchases for 7-30 days depending on state & carrier.
