Question newbie/skoolie commission??

Hello all! My wife and I are looking into buying a small sized school bus (15-20 passengers). We are newbies to the conversion game and are still looking for the best tips and warning signs to avoid when purchasing; and are having a hard time with cost of travel to view them and getting a mechanic to give us an independent inspection. We are also having a hard time nailing down a rule of thumb as to what chassis the bus might have (van or truck chassis) since everything we've heard is to go for the truck chassis since it can handle more weight.
So here's our question(s).
#1 What is the best way to tell if it has a truck chassis or van chassis?
#2 For beginners/newbies how do we tell if the rust has gone "too far" and is structurally dangerous.
#3 Are there services/recommendations for commissioning someone with conversion experience to buy a bus for us?
