Newbie stepping into the next adventure

Happy New Year Everyone!!

My name is Jeff and I currently reside in SoCal. I have been following and checking out the "skoolie" scene for quite some time now and recently retired from my first job. I’m working on warming my wife up to the idea of moving into a bus and starting our next adventure. I’ve been doing my research and looking to start planning our next big purchase soon hopefully!

I do have a few questions though for ya'll…

1. What are some good makes/models/brands/engines to buy for a reliable bus in our opinion? Budget is around $8K, but preferably closer to $3-5K if we can find the right bus. We are really looking between the 25-40ft bus size.

2. Where are good places to purchase? I've heard PublicSurplus, GovDeals and CommercialTruckTrader are a few good sites. Any others you would recommend?

3. What is the best piece of advice that those of you who have already gone through the process can pass along to a novice like me?

Be prepared for more expense than you expect.

Be prepared for it to take longer than you expect.

It may be just a mild exaggeration to say double it in both counts.

If you’re not experienced in a trade, any trade, you may want to examine your skill set or else your expense may be quadruple.
