Noob Looking for Support

Hi everyone!
I am brand new to the whole skoolie concept, and need some help getting started. I'm living in Florida right now, in case that's helpful to know.

I've been following vanlife and similar travel videos for a few years now, and have long held a secret desire to be a gypsy, but it always seemed like a fantasy. Then in the last 4 months, my life was flip-turned upside down harder than the Fresh Prince.

My new job is online and can be done anywhere with a hot spot. I'm looking at probably being single for the first time ever as an adult, after a 20-year relationship. My passion is for the environment and lately I feel very called to the forest, to nature. I want my own space that can also be close to my friends and family , and can go have spontaneous adventures as needed. I also have a special needs cat who has to be able to come with me in my travels and stay in her own peaceful, safe space.

For a couple of different reasons (that I won't go into here so this post isn't a mile long), I think I will need to get something pre-converted that I can move into relatively quickly, and just personalize/customize more as I go. From my earliest research efforts, I think I would do best in a short to mid-size bus. I've only owned small cars in the past, so even a short bus would be a big adjustment. I assume short ones are more fuel-efficient as well, which is important to me. I definitely want diesel and would be HIGHLY interested in learning about the veg-oil diesel conversion.

I need some help with resources to learn about the different things to look for - engine, electric, age/mileage, issues to ask about, brakes, water, etc. I am very new to this, and don't know much about cars and mechanics in general, so I really need all the help I can get.

Plus just meeting like-minded people in this community would be quite helpful for me. I'm a very communally-minded person, but also have a lot of social anxiety so it's hard for me to put myself out there like this. 😊
