Talking Our Journey begins...

Hi everyone!

We are April and Joshua from Houston Texas!!

We're so excited to be part of this community and eager to learn as much as we can. We are 12 days away from purchasing our first bus, a 2004 Thomas/Caterpillar Engine/ 6 Cyl. 189,000 Miles. We are hoping to be completed with our build out by January 2019 and living in it full time.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular make, good/bad, words of advice, suggestions, or anything else that we should consider before taking the plunge? We are very excited but also a bit nervous...okay, a lot nervous, and appreciate all of the feedback we can get.

Thanks so much!!
A&J

Yea! More Houstonians! Bunch of Skoolie folks here. The Cat engine (depending on model) can be great if well cared for. But...if anything breaks, they are Gawd-awful expensive to repair. And hopefully, as an '04, you got a non-EPA model (mechanical, not computerized). The later engines have complex systems that can be nightmarish to maintain.

Thanks again to our Federal Government..."we're here to help!"

Thanks so much!

We have our money together and think that we have found our new "home" but still want to be really cautious to make sure we make the right choice. We are so excited to get started and thankful there are others in the Greater Houston area doing the same thing.

Have there been any meet ups where everyone has gotten together to show their skoolies here in the area?

We mostly just get together to drink and tell stories.
