Property right is a joke in Canada

I lived in communist nation where no human rights and property rights. But here in Canada the insurance company and the government actually control our property. Let fight for our property rights. I am paining in my ass I bought a school bus and took off all seats but no insurance company would insure it as a RV and the government would not give me a plate because it is not insured. I live in miserable Ontario, a socialist province, many youth went ISIS.

Yeah, it's sorta that way everywhere.

No insurance, no plate - need a plate to drive it and insurance too. So yeah, what did you expect?
Have an accident with an uninsured motorist and you'll appreciate that law - A LOT.

As for the other issue..that's discussed here often. many US states are that way. Talked to a guy monday about PA's rules - seems you need 2 or 3 of 5 things - sleeping, eating(kitchen), bath, water..or the like - and then go to an 'enhanced' inspection station to verify.

But it does bring up the old catch 22..how do you get an unregistered vehicle to the inspection location? towing..but that's not cheap on a 20k lb vehicle.

Drive it there illegally..put a plate from something else on it and hope you don't get pulled over. (happens often..no, i'm not admitting to anything).

When I did an R title bike I worked at a dealership and thru a dealer plate on it.

I currently work at a school bus garage..may have a way to do it thru them...not sure, that's a ways off yet.

Property rights in Canada is fake. Because Canadian gun rights are stripped by lawyers and politicians.

I don't understand the insurance plate issue. I know how it works but don't you have a option to have Broad form liability insurance. Lets you have insurance on anything you drive. I've had it for years for like 50$ a month for a bunch of crap I have that I don't want to fully insure. I also have transport plates which in Washington any one can get with a business license. Then plates are good for anything you want to move on a highway. and each set of plates is $2.00 after the $50 fee each year.
But my point is broad form fixes all the issues fro those not wanting to get a replacement value policy. Really do you expect to be made whole with your bus crashes or burns. I wouldn't count on it I expect they look at the title work and see you paid $500 for it and offer you $100.

Do they have that in Communist Canada? Also we have some Hollywood actors headed that way can you let us know when they get there.

"Here" there is a thing called a trip permit. For very few dollars, you buy a trip permit at the dmv, drive the bus in and have it inspected. If you get pulled over, show your trip permit and that you are within your allocated time stated on the permit.

Insurance can be tough. It's that way for about everything now days in all areas. Your current insurance company should be able to cover you under your auto policy for that trip into the dmv.

Hmmm.. I get that registering a vehicle can be frustrating, but I think you're missing some points.

- You don't need insurance on your house and property. Perhaps some HOAs have a way of figuring out if you do or don't and can harass you? I'm not sure.. You DO need insurance if you plan on borrowing tens of thousands of dollars to buy a house. That makes sense. I wouldn't lend out huge chunks of money with the possibility of those dollar bills going up in flames.

- You don't need to insure, have a safety inspection, or license your vehicle UNLESS you want to drive on publicly funded road systems. Why? Because you're not the only one paying for and using the roads so operators should be trained and vehicles should be inspected for everyone's safety.

Now, as far as insurance goes you can find insurance in Ontario. Royal Sun Alliance will insure absolutely anything, but you'll pay for it. The Co-operators mention they will insure converted buses. I've heard people having luck with Allstate, as well.

You do need to bring your bus to a state where it can't be used as commercial party wagon people hauler. That means attesting (in a handwritten letter, in my case) that you have 3 out of 5 things (I think): cook stove; toilet; propane system; bed; ... I can't remember all of them, but it's something like that. It also means having most of the seats removed.

You can do this! I know it's frustrating and confusing, but it can be done. If it ends up being more than you'd like to deal with then just grab an old motorhome. They're all ready to go and easy to insure, just like a car.

Every insurance policy i've had on cars will cover any car you purchase for 30 days - when you get a car you show them your current insurance card and that's good enough to get a plate.

now..never tried to get a plate for bus..not sure what the notary would do (you go to private notaries in pa to transfer a vehicle, not the dmv). then hand you plate right then, or transfer one you have already.

I've no idea what my insurance company would do if I had an accident on the way home..i don't recall any exclusions on that 30 day deal as to type of vehicle.

I have a personal policy for my car and a commercial one for my truck and cargo trailer - only way to get liability on the trailer itself..PITA. (erie insurance). Liberty Mutual just added it to my personal policy- but the two policies at erie is 15% cheaper than one at LM.

With my son about to turn 16 and get a permit i've got a few months to re-evaluate things. With a permit he's covered (already asked). Once he gets a license it's about $800 a year more for him, but lots of detail questions need asked (like is he ok on the commercial policy or just the personal one?)

When was the last time a house rear ended someone? Or rolled over? Or hit a kid?

It happens daily with cars. If you get hit by an uninsured driver you're SOL buddy - you pay 100% for everything and then sue him hoping to get that money back AND your legal fees - and winning such a suit means little unless you can actually collect the money or seize his assetts.

Been there done that...it sucks, ok? Almost 100% of the time these folks don't own anythign you can take...no bank accounts, no 401k, often not even the car (that just got wrecked anyway). Maybe they have a job and you can try and garnish their wages (many low end employers won't do it or will fire the employee because of it).

The guy I sued drove his girlfriend's car (it was in her name) and lived with her, so no house or personal possessions were his. He was an electrician and in PA you can't take someone's ability to earn a living, aka, his tools. My lawyer told me I would win the case but probably never collect a dime. Low lifes know how to work the system to their benefit.

responsible people follow the law and get insurance.

In Quebec, you can convert a school bus into a RV, but you must follow the rules of the SAAQ. Yes it's complicated, but it's possible.
After that, you must to make an evaluation of the bus with a professionnal and they give you a "value price" and your insurance can insure the bus/RV in function of that.
It's an RV, so there is a lot of insurance who can insure any RV.

These are the steps in Quebec.

Onterrible ain't so bad.
My insurance company wants an appraisal before they will even talk to me, "we wanted to know what we are insuring" Is it a $2000 bus or a $20000 bus? Is it an MH or just a giant van?

To get mind converted I needed 4 of the 6 criteria
It's own heat/AC...not the buses
It's own power....solar, gen, hamster on a wheel etc.
refrigeration....fridge/cooler
washroom/toilet
clean water
cooking facilities

I have a genny (1) two small electric heaters (2) a small bar fridge 120 volt and three plastic coolers (3) small bbq and the wives convection hot plate thingy and microwave (4) a make shift composting crapper (5) and fresh water/sink for washing (6) technically all 6 only needed 4. I need to finish seating and mounting furniture.

It'll be used for mostly sleeping hauling ATV's and getting outta the weather/bugs when need be....a tin tube tent

Prof.fate: I'm not sure.. Was that a rebuttal to my post? Because I was in agreement with you with my first post! Just asking because you quoted me at the bottom of your post..

You don't legally need insurance to own a vehicle or a house. You DO legally need insurance if you want to drive a vehicle on the public road system (or a house on the road, for that matter).
