Hi everyone,

I'm about to get my hands on the below bus, which has been half converted (rooms inside but that's all..).

I intend to park the bus on my block (forever more) and use it as a music room. Was thinking about covering it with vines/trellises eventually, not over the windows obviously.. maybe even build a free standing deck over a part of the roof or something.

Can anyone offer advice/comments on rust proofing it..?

As I mentioned it's not going anywhere and the metal will be covered eventually.
In other words, the rust solution could be unroadworthy and/or unsightly.

Coat the roof, and metal sides with something?

Some kind of spray-gun type paint?
Or something I can roll on.

I would assume normal car paint wouldn't last long, hence the post I guess haha.

2 "kits" equal a gallon of material.
It is more durable than regular automotive finish coating, and hides many imperfections on the surface it is applied to.

It is a tad expensive, but it can be sprayed or rolled on.

roof coatings if you don't care what it looks like, gonna rust out no matter what you do eventually, and in 5 years you will be bored with it and tear it down to replace it with something else.

POR15 good stuff.

Etching primers, Rustoleum / Valspar formulations

Nothing lasts forever, expect to redo every few years depending on climate / weather, salt or not etc

a tale of 2 busses.. my DEV bus has oil based urethane single stage paint.. after 5 years it has held up well.. esp considering I drive that bus in every kind of weather.. I have a few spots where there is a little chipping or surface rust but good in my book.. the bus is driven a lot..


the red bus which has water based automotive 2 stage base / clear paint.. its 4 and a half years and im constantly fighting paint chips and it scratches twice as easy as the single stage paint..



a 3rd bus im rolling.. and I really never ever will roll a bus ever again.. this has been a total PITA project.. rolled paint wont have a sheen.. but it does seem to be pretty durable as it cures.. that paint is rustoleum pro oil based..

I hoped to learn about a 'pseudo'.
