Sam from Luxembourg Race hauler

Hey guys , my name is Sam , i am 41 , living in Luxembourg Europe and thinking about converting a Skoolie to a race hauler for Dragracing.
I got an offer for a 1981 International Blue Bird with a 9 Liter V8 Diesel and automatic transmission .
Can anybody tell me a little more about those engines and gearboxes ? Reliability and so on ?!?
My plan would be to fit a hugh tailgate and maybe a vertical lift .
Separate the bus in the middle to make a living area in the front .
Trying to make it as quiet and comfortable to drive as possible .
Any links or advises are highly appreciated

Welcome. I'll be watching your thread VERY closely, as I want to do the same.

Need more info.

The 9.0L is okay. Not a highpowered rig by any means, but it will be reliable enough so long as it has the updated head gaskets. It's non-turbo'd so don't expect modern turbo diesel power from it. 180hp or so is all you'll get.

You listed it as an automatic trans. I assume it's an allison, but the model of allison is pretty important, as some are less reliable and desirable then others.

A lot of guys have converted old buses into race car haulers. There's a few builds on here showing that. Most have used ramps and a flat deck on the frame rails. Some have floated the idea of using a roll-back wrecker bed, some have also floated the idea of a lift gate like a modern toterhome, but I've never seen either concept become reality.

If you're a good fabricator, the only limits you'll have is money, time, and imagination.

Nice. That's sort of what I want, except I want it enclosed, dropped, roof raised and bed over the car. Something along these lines, only no 1.8MM pricetag. I'd have to win the really big lottery when the amounts get stupid high to spend this much.
