Skoolie newb. Patience required. Victoria, BC

Morning/afternoon/evening campers!

Myself, my lady friend and our two hounds are moving to BC on a IEC holiday visa from the UK.

Our dream aim is to convert a skoolie that we can live in full time and move around seasonally to cater to our areas of employment (summer surf, winter board). I was hoping to wrack the brains of seasoned 'skoolies' and hopefully get a crash course of information to make our transition into bus living as seamless as possible.

I will be doing the work myself and it would be a dream come true (I restored a 64 vw splitbus in the UK and enjoyed that immensely) to convert a bus to a rolling home. Our only reservations relate to BC legalities regarding bus conversions, insurance and air break registration.

I'm looking to befriend someone with knowledge of Skoolie-ing in the BC area/ has gone through this stuff in the BC area that would happily shower me with knowledge. I would be buying the beers when we get over the pond as a thank you.

Looking forward to chatting with you all soon

Welcome fellow Brit

I can't answer your Canada specific questions as I live in the US. Here it would be problematic without a close friend who is a resident.

Right on brother! Where in the UK do you originate from? We are Bath and Windosr respectively.

I'm fortunate to know a few old rugby companions that live over in the Richmond/Vancouver BC area so hopefully that will help.

On the topic of the the U-S of A, have you ever taken your bus over into Canada? Our end goal (post 2 year IEC visa) is to drive our bus down the west coast and see some of the sights.

Do you have any knowledge of additional registration/ insurance issues that would arise from crossing the border with a Canadian vehicle?

Cheers
