Skoolie Noobs About To Buy A Bus

Hey everybody,

We're loving all the great info on this site and happy to be joining the community soon.

We're actively looking for a bus to buy and we have a couple of prospects we hope to check out next week. The advertised asking prices seem decent, but we really don't have a frame of reference and we're hoping to get some advice from people more knowledgable than us.

Option 1: 1991 International 3700, IDI 7.3, don't know the transmission, 22' shorty.

Option 2: 1997 International 3800, T444E, don't know the transmission, 27' shorty.

Both have very low mileage and both are asking $4,500.

I know there's a lot more that goes into the equation, but any feedback on initial thoughts would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you all!

I don't know much about these engine applications in the bus world since I'm of the Cummins flavor, but this might help you out.

Thanks JackE.

We decided to pass on both of the buses I mentioned at first, and we're currently looking at a 2001 Thomas Built 8 window with a Cummins 5.9 24V and an Allison 2000.

It's a 6 hour drive for us, and the only thing giving us hesitation to make the trip is the check engine and check transmission lights are on...

Any advice you'd give with your Cummins experience?

Thanks!

If you're a noob definitely don't rush to buy something with red flags. Could be many things. Will need to hook up to a computer with some software and a connector and do some diagnostics. Definitely not something to risk a 6 hour drive with.
