Thought on a bus

So what are your thoughts on a 2007 Ford E450 Cutaway

6.0L V8- 32V Turbo Diesel Engine

It looks good but I have seen some thoughts on busses from 2004 on that aren't so positive. Thanks!

My first four questions would be as follows: Has the engine been "bulletproofed"? What's the price? What's the mileage like? Is there any rust?

If the engine hasn't been "bulletproofed" I would start asking around at garages what they'd charge to get it sorted out and factor that into what you're willing to pay.

It has 146,000. It's $6500;its insulated on ceiling, floors and walls. I have asked about rust and bulletproofing and am waiting to hear.

Thank you!!!!!!

If YOU are a master diesel tech and don't mind working on a 32 valve diesel V8 shoehorned into a van then this is your rig.
If you're going to have to pay for the labor and the parts you're probably looking at anywhere from 6-10 grand.
And that's just hoping it all works out.
Google 6.0 Powerstroke problems. Seriously folks lost their livelihoods because of this engine.

If you have to pay someone to bulletproof it, it will be around $4,000+-
A Ford mechanic friend says that his stock 6.0 has over 250k miles, and it is a decent motor. The problems that he associates with it seem to be mostly after people have tried to boost the power output. He said that the 6.0 comes, from Ford, with about 95+/-% output programed in. Another factor is overheating, but THAT, seems to be the bug-a-boo, of all diesels.

Another big one is oil cooler. Lots of people have killed these engines by ignoring the signs of the oil cooler starting to fail. Once you get coolant in the oil its a matter of new engine block time.

The 6.0 is EXTREMELY picky about clean coolant. That's why most of the 6.0 Super Duty guys have installed extra coolant filters under the driver's side cab (usually)

Me personally, I like to stick with the older generation of diesel engines (7.3, 12 & 24v cummins, etc). Just a lot simpler and the parts are a fraction of the cost of the newer diesels.
