Pretty much any diesel bus will get somewhere between 9 and 11 mpg. The size and weight don't matter as much as the shape.

We just called Kelly Newsome TODAY and switched over from Progressive. Same coverage, 1/3 the cost. What is nice about Kelly is that she understands insuring SKOOLIES and knows folks in many other states. Her number is: 352-326-9300

these pop up in your area every year. They go for cheap then AAA buys them and resells them for like ten g's.

Ahem.....she wasn't able to get coverage for us. Not from lack of trying, though. She bent over backwards to find insurance for us but it seems that being permanent nomads living in a school bus, plus the fact that we're domiciled in South Dakota all converged to make it near impossible to find coverage. We've got Progressive commercial-for-personal liability coverage, and that's good nuff for now. Kelly really busted her ass to get something for us, it just didn't work out.

To keep with that size of bus and keep it an FE (so I can retain the rear door), what transmission should I be looking at. We will be doing some driving over mountain passes.

Any other tranny, it will have a locking converter. Ideally the MT3060 is a damn fine tranny. Don't think I'll ever own another personal bus that doesn't have one in it.

Do folks here use these buses to haul things? Kind of like a toy hauler? Like brining your tiny house and your quads with you, wherever you go?
Just wondering. That is the only thing that I could think of that is close to my application.

Load em up. 8' motorcycle garage for 2 motorcycles. Double doors for ATV and other larger toys. Pocket door to enter cabin.

Probably my last question - do you need to have a CDL to drive a bus that only has seats for 6-9 passengers? The way I am reading stuff - you need a CDL for any vehicle over 26k lbs or if it is designed to carry more than 16 people. But if you take the seats out???? Thanks!

Depends on the state. You can own a private bus that is not used for any business. In Ga. my regular car license allows me to drive All RV's, regardless of weight.

When I built my first skoolie the back room was a kennel. It had room for 12 dogs. I was field trialing Border Collies.
