Re: 1993 bluebird

I think it's a great bus.

what are you planning on using it for?

What engine/trans combo do you have? Do you know what gear ratio you have? There's a plaque by the front door above the windshield (inside) that should tell ya.

Re: 1993 bluebird

Thanks for the reply
my engine is a 3116 catapillar 215 hp and the transmission is an allyson. We are storing it elsewhere so I will have to get back to you on the transmission details and the gear ratio.
My wife and I plan on road tripping with it- our first trip will be from Alaska to West Virginia.

Re: 1993 bluebird

Is that a rear engine bus?

Do you have any pictures? Sounds like a nice bus.

Re: 1993 bluebird

We picked it up from a guy- it was parked in his yard just outside of Fairbanks AK. We paid 5200.00 for it, personally I think it was a great deal- but then again I know nothing about buses .

My TC2000

I just purchased a '93 TC2000 for conversion, I think it's perfect. 36 foot, flat nose front engine. In-line six cummins turbo diesel, Allyson tranny. She's black n white. Gonna be a long road, but the journey will be epic.

So I have the 5.9 l diesel but it's the turbo straight line 6 diesel! Yeah she can run. Has a nice Allison transmission no problems. I paid 9 grand for this baby she's black and white and 36 ft long. Now comes the long journey of turning it into a tiny home which right now is pretty livable even with no build out yet. So here's my question, I want to install cruise control on this baby. The gas pedal is quite stiff and it would be wonderful to have cruise control on this when I go for it 2 hour drive etc. So can anybody give me an ideal of how to go about this. I have absolutely no knowledge about this bus or how to even install Cruise or where I can even get anything like this. So anything you can tell me would definitely help out.

Question number two, I pushed on the gas pedal and it was very tight there are no kinks in the cable however recently the little black grommet that was solid plastic broke off the back of the gas pedal releasing the cable from the pedal and now I have to use vise grips to drive the bus. That way at least the pedal, when pushed on, still pulls up the cable. So if anybody can give me some advice on how to fix this it would be wonderful as well.

Just so you know what I've tried and this is at the advice of a bus mechanic, fishing weights which simply smashed into a flat round circle LOL. I also tried going to Lowe's and picking up a piece of plastic that would fit in the hole where the original piece broke out. I cut a side out of the plastic so it can slip over the cable. But that just shattered when I pushed on the gas pedal as well. However a small set of vice grips clamping the top of the cable just above the back of the gas pedal arm is doing just fine for a temporary fix. I look forward to your comments.

not sure its worth the time or money to install a cruise control.

i've broken the cable end before like you describe and the best fix was to replace the cable.
your 93 ought to have a hand throttle that you can cheat as a cruise but it sketchy when you need to emergency stop.
here is the microfiche from when i replaced my cable. my replacement was a 61" generic throttle cable.

No throttle lock. The cable didn't break. Cable is intact. There's a hole in the back of the gas pedal. Cable went through and a small plastic piece held it that way. That plastic piece broke. Cable just slipped loose from the pedal. Wondering if that is a cable or pedal problem. I'll replace what I need to, just need someone to verify what I need to do.

Are you saying a new cable comes with the plastic attachment? I've wondered about new technology because looking at cable replacements at AutoZone and Napa reveals, no plastic piece but a metal nut, which if that's the new way would be so much better
