Re: Am I too tall for a bus??

While the measurements can vary from one make to the next, there are basically 3 different interior hieghts available, and generally speaking you can look at the outside roof line and tell which one is which. If the outside roof line drops a little right after the front panel, the ceiling height will be around 6' in the center. If it is a straight roof from the very front all the way to the back, it's likely to be around 6' - 3"
inside at the center, and if the roof line raises UPWARD after the front panel, then there should be around 6' - 6" inside at the center.

This is also why MOST people do a roof raise on their buses. I did not, but I'm relatively short at 5' - 7" and have no problem with the low ceiling...

Re: Am I too tall for a bus??

Pete, AH you are never too tall. Look at Millicent & Smittys new ride!

I got lucky when I came across our Thomas Transit Liner. It does have the tall roof, 6'6" at center which is great as I am 6'3" tall & it does feel roomy.... Look into the Thomas buses with the higher roof, they are out there! I would love to raise a roof one day tho...

I raised the roof on my bus 14". Then I framed in a flat drop ceiling with three and a half inches of fiberglass insulation above it. Finished height floor to ceiling is six foot eleven inches.

Abbott, even though I just saw I had posted in your conversion thread, all I see are the dreaded "Red-Xs" in place of your pics. I didn't recall you installed a flat ceiling...anywhere I can see pics? Or are the Red-Xs on my end? Seemed like you "blogged" your project, got a link? I'd like to take a look at your ceiling.

Thanks
Smitty
Hi Smitty, my blog is off line due to ISP issues. I really like the way the flat ceiling makes the bus feel inside. If you want to PM me an e-mail address I will send you a few photos of the ceiling.

(I am taking off for a day or two sometime tomorrow afternoon)

I'm 6'5" and handle the 6' interior just fine. Sure, I wish I had more height, but it's really not that bad...unless you get a tuft of hair caught under a rivet head after a night of overindulgence.

Re: Am I too tall for a bus??

I would have to say that it depends on if your going to put a ceiling fan in...

My friend is 6'6". He lives in a (non)mobile home with a ceiling fan. His hair brushes the blades when he walks under it, and I have seen him forget to duck a few times while it was on... Lucky for him that it just barely misses skin (less than a quarter of an inch). ...Not that I think you will put one in, but just in case...

Do yourself a favor, Find a bus that you can stand tall in, or raise the roof.
