Anyone else on the board a licensed ham operator? CB radio buffs? Pirate? What kind of gear are you using aboard your skoolie, or what do you plan on using?

Now that I've given the topic some thought, I think I'm going to plan a setup here. Will post details soon.

I often thought about getting into HAM, but I just never got around to it. Perhaps I still will someday. Both my truck and my bus are equipped with CB's, the truck for communications on trail rides and the bus just for interstate chatter.

My handle on the CB is "The Rabid Hamster" thanks to a trucker on I-90 during a long excursion in my truck. I would probably answer to that or "Havoc on the Highway" on the bus since that is it's given name.

I heard rumor that you can take the test now WITHOUT knowing morse code. Any truth or value to this? Do you end up with a castrated license? I have a hell of a time learning any new language be it spanish, german, html, or morse code.

i got my liscense years ago without morse code. Back then you still needed it for the more advanced liscenses. I think they eliminated morse code from the testing for all liscense levels now.

I believe that as of February 07, morse code is no longer needed for a license. I havent checked in to upgrading as of yet.
