Re: AUTOZONE FIRES EMPLOYEE FOR BEING A HERO
I don't think they should let him go. But I also think his life is worth more than $2K. I know that Home Depot will fire an employee if they have a gun on the premises. With all the "workplace violence", do you really want a co-worker with a gun?
When my daughter was living in Houston, her hotel was robbed. She gave them all the cash in the drawer (all $30) and then jumped the counter to chase down the robber. They got in a car & left. Now, what do you think the cops, hotel owner, her sister and her Dad & I said to her? She was so pissed that she was robbed. We were all so happy she wasn't hurt. Businesses have insurance that will cover the $$ lost in a robbery.

It's often said "Just give 'em what they want because you can't buy back your life." I understand the logic but feel like retorting, "but you can't sell the PTSD you get afterward!"
Speaking of PTSD (which I've experienced from other causes) I generally wouldn't wish it on anyone...except a***holes like whoever fired the AutoZone hero.
Does anyone know if AutoZone stores are corporate or franchise-owned? I have mixed feelings about boycotting because it may amount to cutting one's nose off to spite one's face, i.e., hurting the employees instead of the fat cats.

I work at Home Depot and I'm OK with their gun policy. It's too unpredictable what will happen if a coworker had a gun. Never mind that a disgruntled employee could bean someone with a sledgehammer or ax. I wouldn't want them to fire someone who used his or her forbidden firearm to neutralize what any person with two brain cells to rub together would recognize as a clear and present danger to the lives of self and others. The trouble with zero tolerance is that it's black-and-white while the real world presents a greyscale continuum of circumstances.

The way I see it is gun laws and no gun policies don't apply to the whack job that wants to kill a dozen people at work then turn the gun on himself.

Re: AUTOZONE FIRES EMPLOYEE FOR BEING A HERO
Gun laws only restrict the law abiding citizens that actually register their guns and try to protect what is rightfully theirs........
The wackos could care less and anyone who decides to kill one or more people will not be stopped by more gun laws....
Just think how safe this country would be if everyone carried a gun, kept one in their house and auto....
How many lifes could be saved by simple ownership/ possession of one vs....
more guns laws and regs that only apply to the few who choose to abide...
More lifes are saved by ownership vs calling and waiting on the police to arrive. The average response time for a policeman is 18.2 minutes. Average trigger time is less than .2 seconds...
Which one do you want if it's your house that's getting broken into???
When the guy is breaking in to your house you're helpless without a gun. Just think how the crook will feel when he stares down the barrel of a 44 mag...
Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face........ boom there it tis...
just my 2 cents

Re: AUTOZONE FIRES EMPLOYEE FOR BEING A HERO
This is a subject that just gets everyone pissed off. What I believe and what other believe are never the same. I certainly do not want any of my co-workings packing a gun. I certainly don't trust any of you guys either! I think the only one on this forums who should be allowed to have a gun is me. As for gun laws... I can buy a gun at anytime simply by going into a restaurant or flea market and start talking. No registration either. I find it interesting the people who say they have guns in case "society breaks down" yet blithely registers their guns so the government knows exactly what they have and where they live.
For the record (repeat slowly)...
we
do
not
have
any
guns.
That's my story & I'm sticking to it.

Re: AUTOZONE FIRES EMPLOYEE FOR BEING A HERO
Anyone catch the bullshit editorial of Bob Costas on Sunday Night Football??? He was saying that if there were stricter gun laws then Belcher wouldn't have murdered his girlfriend then killed himself... I enjoy watching football, but that piece of **** needs to stfu and stick to talking about the game and not his opinion on gun rights... Rant off...

Re: AUTOZONE FIRES EMPLOYEE FOR BEING A HERO
Domestic violence (which is what this is) rarely involves a gun. But you didn't hear Costas ranting about the occurrence of domestic abuse and violence against others among the NFL team members did you.

Re: AUTOZONE FIRES EMPLOYEE FOR BEING A HERO
I've spent a good bit of time being a sheep dog. How would you feel about not being able to stop a thief who was bound and determined to kill his prey----just because you decided not to carry your weapon when you leagally could have? Baaaa?

That must have slipped his mind.
Guns are simply a tool to be used. If a person intends on killing another, then not having a gun won't stop them. If we should ban all things used to kill, then we would not have any hands either!
Ever seen the damage a pneumatic nail gun loaded with a big coil of 3 inch nails can do? Remove the "safety" and you can shoot nail quite a ways. With one of the "fuel cell" powered nail guns, you don't need a compressor. Gives new meaning to the phrase "Nailed him".
"Judge, I was just protecting myself with my nail gun!"

We should ban people. That would solve the problem.
