Moon mirrors is one name. I'll go to the Thomas portl and look them up for what they are "officially" called. Some call them kid-minder mirrors.

Thomas Built Buses calls them "Mirrors-Safety Cross" on the bill of materials.

I also see "Crossview Mirrors" listed as well. They are made by Rosco.

I was referring to the side mirrors. Those specific ones are referred to as "West Coast Mirrors", and they look terrible from the rear so I scrapped the idea :P

What's the idle RPM of your engine? I've been told mines too low (around 500)

I'd say my warm idle is ~500rpm. warmup idle is ~700.

Both my side view mirrors are rectangles...

I am thinking the various buses have varying mirrors. The side mirrors on our bus are also rectangular, but there are two mirrors in the rectangular housing.

Our idle speed is 750 RPM ...all the time. The first high-idle is 1200 RPMandthe second high-idle is 1600 RPM.

The most common side mirror types I see (not in order) are

'West Coast Mirrors'

'Double Nickel Mirrors'

'Eurostyle Mirrors'

I've got double nickel and eurostyle as options on my model. I also bumped up the idle RPM now so it's proper.

Our bus has the Euro Style mirrors, heated. That heat function sure comes in handy in wet/foggy weather.

I've got the double nickle style mirrors, also heated. Not sure all 4 mirrors are heated -- might just be the upper ones.

RE: I'm probably misremembering... but I'm probably starting the bus later today so I'll get a refresher!

I do know that my dash control rpm switches are programmed a little differently than Natives. And I can select any rpm with the throttle pedal and then lock it in with the dash switches...

It's ecu also does things automatically during the warm-up sequence which can be disconcerting if you're outside the bus and the rpm's jump up from 750 to 1250! But mostly I'm glad it's ol' "brain" is still functioning...

I assume, like the headlight swtich, the high idle switch has 3 positions?

I have something like this modeled in mine, maybe I should move to this method in BeamNG.

Also, what happens if you redline it, then lock that in? Will it allow that?

I stand corrected on the idle 700rpm -- or I didn't let it run long enough -- the temp never came up -- just had to shuffle vehicles a bit...

Sorry I cut my switches off in the pic -- mine are marked RPM1
.................................................. .............................RMP2

And it's a momentary switch.

And the ABS light staying on is new... minor grrrrrr....

My ABS will go out after sitting a while, then turn on after about 15 minutes of operation. Stop for fuel, does the same thing. Brakes work well, but I'd like to get rid of that indication.

We have a momentary rocker switch to control the engine speed. One press up and the ECU will drive the speed to 1200 RPM. One more press and it ramps to 1600 RPM. If I press the up twice or more times, then down once the engine will settle out at 1200 RPM. It remembers. The "range inhibited" light will go on if I put the transmission in other than "N" and have the "RPM Control" switch turned on. So, it can not be used as a poor-man's cruise control.

If anyone wants to check out a static version of this model, I've uploaded it to sketchfab with all the textures set up (aside from a few issues)

https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/thom...e28a55ed814306

I was checking it out in VR again. It's cool laying under the bus and seeing all the mechanical stuff in real scale!

I took it out for a spin. Actually, I made it spin several times.

You have put a lot of work into the model. You deserve to lay under gazing up from time to time.

I spun it around a couple times too!

And I realized something -- on Dummiesman's bus, the first passenger window's behind the driver window and entrance door appear longer than the other ten windows on each side.

On my bus, all eleven windows on each side are the same size. Is this another one of those little options or slight variations from early to late model FS65's?

This is one of those things I don't know about either

I've seen it at the rear (most commonly), front, and just not at all.

Ours has the longer first window. Options, I suppose.

Fascinating 'cause that means it was an option and not a MY change.

And what is the advantage of having one window wider than the others...?
(this is a rhetorical question...)

What do you mean by "MY change"?

You know, I have no idea why or what good they are. Ours is a double glass that fogs up. I think they were supposed to eliminate fogging ... go figure. Just today, I had a request by my better half to replace it with an RV window.

Using some pictures EastCoastCB took a while back, on a bus they actually bought, I added in a lift kit by using lift blocks. Probably shouldn't use it on the long frame though...

Ahh, It's a double pane glass. Fogging up inside means it's seals are compromised. When new, it would've provided a bit better insulation too...
