maybe... the exporters bid the *&%&* out of old mechanical DT-466's.. my guess is the electronic parts in those countries are hard to get...

I wouldnt touch anything thats been run in broward county.. I dont know how the miami-dade treats their busses..

In my experience the mechanical buses go cheaper... They want em as new as they can get but will pretty much buy any bus if its in FL.
2001's with cats and 545's auction for over ten grand here.

I'm with you on FL buses though. I wouldn't buy one.
Miami would NOT be a good place to bus shop.

in st pete its not uncommon for me to be out walking early in the morning and hear busses being driven with skips, dead cylinders, suspensions that rattle worse than my 27 year old carpenter.. and these are 10 year old busses... they arent rusty.. and the Air-conditiuoners always work but the rest of the bus is beat to heck...

That's most of FL.
Our bus yard has some late model Thomas RE's being cannibalized to save the district from ordering new parts.
Cheap, underfunded schools. I went to them, they're a joke.

The very first bus listed does not look too bad:

Veh# 93004
PC# 097513
Vin# 4DRBGAAN63A959143
Miles: 76,957
Engine: DT466E
Transmission: Allison 2000 series
Stated Condition: Fair (Parked running 8 months ago)
Dual Air Conditioners: Carrier
Battery: Dead
Tires: Fair
Capacity Max: 90 Passengers
GVWR: 32,000
Comments: Close up photos of obvious visible wear and damages taken. Some dust and mildew stains on seats.

2003, 76k miles, DT466 & Allison 2000. Running when parked.

You know it's bad when they're auctioning off 2008-2010 MY buses that have already been cannibalized for parts.

Really indicates that maintenance is a joke and funding is nonexistent.

Also like East Coast said the exporters go crazy for any kind of school bus down there

you alsao have to ask yourself why are they selling a 76,000 mile bus (if its accurate)../ and if it is.. why is it so low of miles and 14 years old.. when every other bus in the district is much higher for the age..

I watch these auctions like a hawk. If there were ever ANYTHING in FL worth trying to get I'd have gone for it!

Lots of BEAT Freightshakers with Cats missing parts. Vistas with 300k on em covered in mold and always some late model RE's that are missing lots of parts... FL buses are the pits, and the most expensive.

I hope you guys are being overly melodramatic. It looks like a nice bus but I haven't had anyone put eyes on it yet. Already have a bid on one tho.

Just giving my honest opinion. Take it or leave it.

They're close to me and I'd rather bid on one 1500 miles away.

With a bid already submitted, I haven't much of a choice. Hopefully either I get outbid or it runs fine. It's a 1,000 mile walk back from Miami.

I do not know where the line is drawn, but western Florida busses do not sell for any more than say the same bus in Al, GA, MS or any where else in the southeast.

My guess would be Ocala. You're not in sunny south FL somewhere north of Orlando. Gainsville certainly feels more GA lite than FL.

And, I just got outbid on the Miami bus.

It will be interesting to see what it sells for. I almost bid on one from the same seller when bus shopping a couple years ago.

Without seeing it in person, I'm not going any higher. Hell, I shouldn't have bid on it at all without someone checking it out.

Did yours at least look good?

IDk, I've always bid on them sight unseen.
I call and talk to em, or simply email.

FL buses

I know alota ppl like Blue birds but i am a Thomas fan. A few thoughts, i always heard to buy buses from the south are the best(?) i assume that means the Carolinas or Ga? I've also heard buses from FL are good b/c they run on flat grounds so transmissions are usually better. (lol) but i have heard Miami dade area is the total worst in bus maint. and breakdowns and not to buy down there! lol another thing, this happened when moving from NC to FL in 2010. I had to register my vehicle in FL which was expensive b/c it was coming from another state. Does this usually work with buses to i assume so, how easy is it to register a bus from another state? any thoughts, thanks!
