What would the interior height be?
I am looking at an auction for a 1996 International/Thomas mini Bus
Any idea what the interior ceiling height would be?
I am 6'1" and would rather standing room.

school bus vs transit
so 2.5 per window for a school bus makes sense is there a simple formula for transit buses? I'm trying to figure out with a family of 5 which would have more room.

At least for Blue Bird, you can find out the exact length for anything newer than about '94ish. Before that records are sketchy.
Just enter the VIN # here:
Unit Dashboard | Portal...
The four-figure number under "Length" is, I believe, feet and inches.
Later they changed the code to "6600" or "7700" and I haven't decoded that yet.
BB also have a chart for decoding the VIN #. That gives the length too. Take off maybe 3' for transit and 5' for conventional and you roughly have the distance from the back of the driver area to the rear of the bus.

Either.
They both come with low and high ceiling variants.

It provides bus length for most Blue Birds, because it is coded into the VIN #

Good point on the length. Is there a way to determine interior height from the VIN though? That's what i was looking for when I had initially posted, would be awesome if there was but I haven't found a way yet.

Not for Blue Birds, but the BB site sometimes lists it. VIN # codes interior height in Thomas Built.

Any buses under 30' feet that are 78" inches tall?
I'm looking for a bus under 30' with at least 20' of usable space that is 78" tall. Does this exist? My husband is 6'4.5" so it's a must and we don't want to have to raise the roof.
Thanks!

This does exist. Our bus is 30ft bumper to bumper, and our ceiling is 78inches tall. We have a 9 window carpenter on a 1998 International 3800 chassis with a DT466e and, as of tomorrow, will have a MT643 transmission... We both can jump inside the bus and not hit our heads...it's wonderful. Granted, we are both under 5'10"....

Amazing! Thank you so much John & Beeks! How wide and long is the usable space inside? Also, why the new transmission, should I be aware of something with it? Anything else I should know about this bus?
Thank you!

Inside useable space is about 7'5" wide. Our AT545 transmission crapped out after 2 years of mountain driving and towing....

If you can, avoid the AT545 if you will do any extensive interstate driving. It just isn't designed for it...
