Now, could someone explain to me how it jumped from bats to pangolins to humans?

I don't think it's a question anymore as to covid-19 originating from a wild life market in wuhan. My question is how was it transferred from wildlife to humans.

I understand it's transmitted human-human by our respiratory droplets, is that how it's done from bat to pangolin and then pangolin to human? Or is it transferred by consuming the meat? If it's the latter, wouldn't the virus be killed by cooking the meat to a certain temperature then? Or is pangolin eaten raw in a similar fashion as sushi?

We can stop the human to human transfer if we all wear masks, sanitize surfaces, and wash our hands. I'm curious as to how we'll stop the transfer from animals to humans. Or how we could detect that there is a possible strain that is likely to make the transfer.

As said in the article, there have been many coronavirus strands discovered, and many more that will continue to mutate and be discovered. I think the prevention lies in eliminating the transfer amongst species, not in creating a vaccine.

That is an excellent example of the sort of conspiracy theories I have been expecting. It contains some specific info which it is possible to attempt to verify. Like the claim that there have been no COVID-19 cases in Shanghai or Beijing. And right now I have some very competent help to attempt to verify this claim.

I have a good friend and former colleague staying with me right now. He's been working in Taiwan recently, but was on holidays in the US when all this started, so he has been unable to get back to Taiwan.

This fellow happens to be the most Mandarin-fluent Westerner I know, which means he is perfectly fluent at reading Mandarin. So right now my friend is looking through Mandarin-language news sources on the web looking for reports of COVID cases in Shanghai and Beijing. We will also be looking at other Chinese cities, such as Hefei, the capitol of Anhui province, which is much closer to Wuhan than Shanghai, and has over 6 million inhabitants.

It takes less than an hour on the high-speed train to get to Hefei from Wuhan, which is the capitol of Hubei, the province just west of Anhui. So Hefei is much closer to Wuhan than Shanghai is, so Hefei is an obvious place to check for reports of COVID-19 cases. I have never been to Wuhan, but I have been to Hefei. I can't quite remember exactly how long it took, but when I worked in Southern Anhui, I personally travelled from Hefei to Shanghai several times, and it took several hours.

I will report back here later about whatever we find.

@Booyah45828, I don't know how a pangolin could get infected by a bat. You wouldn't expect them to be kept in the same cage. And also pangolins are illegally imported into China and would be very expensive, definitely not affordable by the working class. In pre-COVID times pangolins would not have been really difficult to find, but I don't think they would have been openly displayed in a market.

But I don't have a lot of experience in such markets because I stuck to the regular markets and ate a lot of pork and duck while I was in China. I could have eaten dog meat if I had wanted to, but I didn't want to.

A business friend in Beijing that i talked with several weeks ago told me that everything was shutdown and in isolation.


I used to make aircraft jet engine non destructive test equipment and sold and installed a lot in China. Over the years I was maybe 20 weeks in China. My experience was that their work ethic is something that we had here 40 years ago.

We made a lot of these systems for GE aviation as well. It was a lot more pleasant to deal with the Chinese then with GE lawyers / bullies.
The only reason we stopped doing business in China because the CIA wanted me to spy on the Chinese, a lot of the facilities were semi military, and I knew that I had to stop , just like not starting on heroine. There is no end.

I don't mind people eating rats, and if there are as many poor people and rats as there are in China, it's perfectly logical. Pangolins I mind because they are endangered. I have never seen a pangolin anywhere

And I did not realize that my friend would be limited to seaching English-language news because he can't type Mandarin on the American phone he has now.

But there is plenty of info on Chinese COVID cases to be found in English. Of course, those who want to believe this conspiracy theory will discount this info as having been prepared for international consumption.

My friend did find English-language reports of cases throughout Eastern China with the sole exception of the far north. These reports might be difficult for some conspiracy theory types to understand, because they don't give the number of total cases, but rather give the number per 100,000 of population.

And my friend found reports from the Municipality of Shanghai about Russian travelers being forced into quaratine after they tested positive for COVID-19. They were tested because their body temperatures were found to be elevated during the routine screenings the Chinese are subjecting travellers to, even domestic travellers.

And I think it's quite logical that the number of COVID cases in North Korea is very, very low, because ordinary citizens are not normally allowed to leave the country, only people affiliated with the govt somehow can do that.

But it is the part about Nancy Pelosi that really shows this report is bogus. Let me stress that I am not a Pelosi supporter. I tend to think she is a [multiple expletives deleted] and would not mind a bit if she quit politics right now, but I am never going to believe without substantial, concrete evidence that she, or any other American for that matter, is working with the Chinese to bring down the US.

Great video, this looks a lot like the markets I used to shop in, just a bit newer and fancier, with better-dressed clientele. I found shopping in these markets to be one of the best things about living in China. The only live animals I ever saw in a market were fish or crawdads.

I did once see a skinned-out dog carcass hanging in a market near the first university I taught at. But most people in that part of China do not eat dogs, so the dog carcass was off in a corner. I only found it because I was looking for it after I heard one of my colleagues had seen dog meat in that market. Normally I just bought pork, vegetables and fruit there.

And I knew the pork was fresh. My nose told me that. There was no refrigeration, so the guy I bought pork from would bring a whole pig there every morning on his tricycle and sell all the meat before he went home that evening. I certainly miss the markets in China. Food is much fresher there.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but must admit there are a lot of
interesting points in this essay:

The corona Virus traveled the entire world from Wuhan but it did not reach

It looks so logical. After all, the Chinese Stock Market didn't crash.
American and European Markets did. Destroy other markets and be ready to
capture them in every way. How to dominate the world quickly?

1. Create a virus and the antidote.
2. Spread the virus.
3. A demonstration of efficiency, building hospitals in a few days. After
all, you were already prepared, with the projects, ordering the equipment,
hiring the labor, the water and sewage network, the prefabricated building
materials and stocked in an impressive volume.
4. Cause chaos in the world, starting with Europe.
5. Quickly destroy the economy of dozens of countries.
6. Stop factory production lines in other countries.

Just Think about this:

How come Russia & North Korea are totally free of Covid- 19? Because they
are staunch allie of China. Not a single case reported from these two
countries. On the other hand, South Korea / United Kingdom / Italy / Spain

Don’t OD on the Koolaid!

China won a long time ago. We let them with the help of the billionaires that so many Americans idolize, look up to, put in power. WE helped a communistic authoritarian government build its strength by buying all the crap they make, selling them our financial instruments and real estate. WE did that.

We are China’s number one trading partner. It is not in their interest to throw the worlds economy into disarray. They have as much to lose as the rest of us.

I never noticed Publix sold nitrile gloves. All my work was in Kroger today but I'm meaning to look.

I got four boxes from harbor freight early in March. I wish I had bought more masks though.

I'm still not sure I want or need gloves. I think I will get by OK with my alcohol procedure and very rare outings. And I do have gloves when I decide I need them, they're just not really disposable, but rubbing alcohol works on them too.

But out of curiousity I just looked for gloves on Amazon. Extra-large like I would want if I was going to wear gloves are a little scarce, but they have plenty of the smaller sizes.

However, they are shipping from China and it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get here. So people who want gloves should get as many as they can now.

And it probably would be a good idea to pour a little rubbing alcohol into the inside of the gloves to sterilize them before putting them on just in case the conspiracy theorists are right about the Chinese wanting to destroy the West.
