I'd LOVE to have a summer home up there. I love the dialect.

Sorry that talking about the virus seems so partisan. the president suggested that maybe we could inject bleach or sunlight into the human body. I really don't think its at all political to criticize or question that. That should be scary and hilarious to anyone, even if you voted for him. I've been on FB all morning getting called a commie and libtard despite having ONLY ever voted republican in my life. This forum is NOTHING like FB. No one's preaching 5g and shooting bleach up here.
I posted a vid of protesters harassing hospital workers and now my most hardcore trump loving friends are saying the protesters "aren't real trump supporters and they're being paid by bill gates". Its hysterical, but yet at the same time people are dying so the comedy is lost.

Those people know how to stay in and survive up there!

If we had all stayed home hardcore for 30 days starting back in march we could be seeing the same success as some of the places like NL. We'd be 90% over it all by now.

The possibilities narrow here. It looks like to me it is coming down to murderous moron or dangerous sociopath.

Yup. Nothing political about pointing out that advice given was grossly wrong and ridiculous...

I'm mildly impressed that FB has decided it owes the world some social responsibility and is blocking posts that contain flagrant medical misinformation as well as blocking posts to promote the gathering of insightful protesters...
(Remember, yes, you have "freedom of speech" but you are not allowed to yell "FIRE" inside a crowded theater...)

We were just talking about them!

It is inevitable that the nutcases will come out of the woodwork, especially now that our fearless leader has joined them so dramatically. And I do understand exactly what is happening with Trump.

He has been a psychopath all his life, but he has previously always been very organized. Now he has become disorganized under the intense pressure of being President. I am using organized and disorganized as a psychiatrist would.

I forget exactly which one it is, but there is a clause in a Constitutional Amendment that will cover this situation, and I think we will hearing talk about President Pence soon.

I don't see this as politics; I see it as national survival.

You're referring to the 25th amendment, chap 4 more specifically...
Yeah, I don't recommend going there on this thread..

It's Miata touring country but a bus would be the ticket too.

I have to check on ferry costs and restrictions before going over with Marine Atlantic. Great ferry service, take about 3-4 hundred transports.

It's where I am going fulltime if I ever get building done, weather has been so un-coperative since Dec for me.

Sure hope their rates keep going the right way.

Maybe you guys could claim asylum up there.

Now the French are testing the effects of nicotine patches among both high-risk volunteers and people who already have COVID. They are doing this because their surveys of the rate of COVID infection among smokers strongly suggests that nicotine lowers the risk of infection among smokers.

So, especially if you test negative when you finally get an anti-body test, I suggest the patches, they worked well for me.
Ex smoker here also. Personally speaking I will not be doing this. What little research has been done, and I stress little, amounts to little more than conjecture at this point. The same cannot be said of the myriad negative health consequences associated with nicotine and/or tobacco. Took me years to finally quit for good. No way I'd consider doing anything that could get me hooked again on a known addictive toxin / carcinogen.

To switch gears completely, we've been away from the forum recently mainly preparing for this mess. Wife & I both have elders we care for so it's been a significant concern. It's nice to come back & see this community taking it seriously.

Crazy times.

Just catching up. Bound to be strong differences in opinion, but from what I've read so far, y'all have remained much more civil (& informed) than a few corners I've regretted visiting.

Excuse me ... context? If you read that article, you see what the president said to a bunch of reporters: “Is there a way we can do something, by an injection inside or almost a cleaning?” He then sait it was a joke. Perhaps in jest he was asking if is there a way to clean out the virus. He did not say to inject Lysol and the statement was not a CLAIM!!! He was playing with the press to see how far they would take such a comment out of context ... which they did. Many fell for it hook-line-and-sinker!

Besides ... what does this have to do with "COVID-19 and the effects on Skoolies"?

The relevance here is because this thread was started to convey helpful covid-19 info. Making sure dangerous misinformation is not followed is also helpful. The same source also wrongly suggested taking chloroquine -- I lived in the Philippines 3 years -- there's no anti-malarial drug you wanna take for funzzies if you don't have too...

I've seen the entire footage in context -- it reminds me of a 6yr old wondering the possibilities of what to do... And if it'd been a 6yr old that said it I'd think it's really cool to see how the gerbil wheels are spinning inside the child's head...

But alas, it was not said by a child -- it was said by the potus and as such many cleaning product companies felt the need to protect themselves from their products being misused... The governments of other countries have had to come out and say please don't use cleaning products internally

What I am trying to stress here is that this thread is NOT "POLITICS and its effect on Skoolies". I do acknoledge that politics do have an effect ... on everything.

Once again I find myself saying that this is a group of individuals with a common interest in HELPING others in this community.

Let's at least try to keep it positive, not political. Posts like those folks offering their land to skoolies that need a place to stay ... posts like "Hey, I made hand sanitizer out of 70% alcohol and aloe gel"... even "How's the stay-at-home orders working in your area" ... all help fellow members by giving information they might not be able to find.

Let's all strive to be a touch more thoughtful and a touch more positive in posting, and a bit less emotional.

A crisis of this magnitude is going to make folks more emotional than normal.
But it seems some folks don't like an mention of what's going on with our leadership. Simply quoting the prez is taken as political, yet it has entirely everything to do with all of us and our very lives.

I honestly don't think anyone here is being too crazy or rude. we just all come from varied backgrounds and don't all believe the same things.

Focusing on the positives and keeping updated with useful stuff is GREAT. But don't expect us not to occasionally discuss what our leader is telling us. That's asking too much, really and I think most of us are trying to keep our conversation pretty civil. We've all made our positions more or less clear and most of us sorta know where each other are coming from.

On a totally different note I wonder what impact this could have on upcoming skoolie events.

Ooooh yeah, more posts like that please! We're on pins and needles wondering if the next place we move to is going to be open for camping. So far it hasn't been an issue, and we're trying to stay put as much as possible (we've only camped in 2 places in the past 3 months) but the weather is forcing us out of the Nevada desert and, hopefully, to the mountains. Not having a home base to retreat to can be stressful...we've talked to a lot of nomads out there that are in the same predicament.
