alabama recorded its highest amount of new cases monday/tuesday. https://www.alreporter.com/2020/05/2...eases-to-date/
I have an aunt up there who's a prison guard. She's always posting stuff to FB about how she's not going to wear masks or do distancing.

There are some countries/states/presidents in the world that are doing a wonderful job.
New Zealand is doing very well. Mongolia took this SERIOUSLY and has no cases on record. They locked down in January, and for real.

I acknowledge that there are lots of bad outlets of information out there. But if your objection is that no one anywhere can be trusted it won't make for much of a conversation.
I've closely followed what's going on in several countries. Sweden is a favorite to watch. Their gov't has tried to keep the headlines positive but the death count etc paint a much grimmer picture.

I'd trade my lil house and lot for an equal one in New Zealand yesterday. There are countries doing a very admirable job of mitigating this. Countries where there isn't a huge movement against wearing ppe and using distancing.
Its not just the gov't that I feel let down by. Its my fellow "Americans".

I can agree with some of that, feeling very let down.

I could never live in New Zealand for the same reason I couldn't live in Canada. Way too hard for me to keep all my guns in those two countries, and so many others! I hate having to give up my guns every time I cross the border to visit my daughters family. I feel naked without it!

I can't speak to all states...
That is why a "Free Press" is important and considered (to some) a forth branch of government -- a necessary part of the "checks & balances" of our democracy...

I don't particularly care what random "others" are saying...

The government through it's various health agencies is tasked (and paid to, with your tax dollars I might add) with gathering health data so that leadership can make sound decisions...

I'm not telling anyone my predictions of body count -- and what fool would be looking to me for such answers anyway...

While I love my guns. I value my life and my family even more.
From where I'm sitting about half of the USA wants my mom to be sacrificed for the economy.

Right now the main place I'm interested in is Newfoundland. Then Uruguay.

Here's an interesting article on drug and vaccine development.

Bottom line:

1. There are a lot of potential drug treatments, but none are clinically proven to be effective yet.

2. There are over 100 vaccines in development and 8 are in clinical trials. Best case is 30 million doses by September. Most likely is nothing is available until summer or fall of 2021. Considering the number of people around the world clammoring for a vaccine, I would imagine it would take many months and maybe years to make enough for everyone.

So- a different effect of Covid is starting to bear down on us. We've got family members attacking my wife on social media. Family members and friends voicing their utter disdain for our not coming around for visits. My FIL is upset we didn't come over for dinner last weekend.
Lots of folks calling us "commies". Its starting to really piss me off. Apparently the education system has been bad a LOT longer than folks think. People don't have the first clue what communism and socialism are. Or how viruses spread.
Sorry- that's starting to venture into the political.

Hey there CB
Yep starting to get the same thing here. Restrictions are relaxing here and the sheep are going out in herds. I have family members doing the same thing, traveling all around the province and then wanting to crash at my place for a visit as they pass through the area. Then they are upset when I say we're not comfortable with that and say we are being over cautious with our level of isolation.
Take care stay safe

YEah, you too!

Everyone's going to have their own level of comfort, but I couldn't imagine getting mad at someone who's more careful than me.
I do get upset that some folks won't make any effort at all. I think their lashing out at us who use caution is sort of like a coping mechanism they use to get around knowing they're not trying and the rest of us are. im not a believer but proverbs 16:18 comes to mind.

in my opinion its unfortunately politics that has gotten in the way..

while i'll admit im an "open up the country" advocate.. im an open-with-caution advocate.. having sat in my house with my gun on the nightstand, I can and will say that mental health matters.. as does having an income..

HOWEVER. I am really beginning to believe that 99.5% of all those refusing to wear masks are doing so as a political statement and not because of any other reason.. had the political climate been different or had we just come out and said "no lockdowns but everyone must mask for health". we likely wouldve seen a lot more participation.. there are obvious situations where masks are detrimental (ie running, biking, heavy workout).. but those outdoor activities are low risk (as shown by more than one study)..

im not sure if thats whats driving the packed-to-the-gill bars we see pics of all over the country or if thats just stupidity.. and influence of alcohol which obviously clouds judgement.. the scene here in town is of a bar at 8 pm, nicely social-distanced, people following regulation of "must be seated at a table and not mingling".. yet by 11 or 12 that same bar is a packed mess of drunken stupor... fortunately at least here the governor stepped up the enforcement team to cite and even shut places down that dont comply..

every day I do see more and more small businesses with signs up "masks required".. which means more and more people are at least carrying a mask in their purse or pocket or its dangling around their neck.. so when asked they do have the ability to comply..

the unwritten "rule" in restaraunts is more and more coming to be that masking is required when you are not seated at your table.. ie walking to restroom or in / out..

how effective this all is? no one knows. but certainly cant hurt..

thus far my friends (I reallt dont speak to much family). have been quite understanding of all this.. the bus groups that usually got together did one socially distanced gathering a few weeks ago.. we each drove our own bus and had our own hotel rooms.. we did hang out in one of the guys' party bus with ther windowsd down and spaced well apart for a take-out meal.. the Pizza connisuers group I normally hung out with did a virtual get together eating pizza from a local-only mini-chain.. we did a Zoom and each had a pizza from our close-by location of said chain.. it wasnt bad. but we felt much better than getting together in one of their small restaraunts..

You really should talk to someone about that depression, man.
If you're ever feeling suicidal stop whatever you're doing and call me... No matter what time/day. PLEASE

I've lost way too many loved ones to suicide.

I didn't say get on drugs.

What are you not able to do now that's making you want to not live anymore? Genuinely asking.

Ok, great!

I really mean it about calling me if you ever do feel that way. I love you, man. You're one of our favorite people!
