Interesting data point from New York:
First responders (EMTs, cops, fire fighters), public service employees (bus drivers, court clerks, etc.) and essential workers (taxi drivers, home care care providers, and on and on) who are required to follow the CDC guidelines ALL have a lower rate of COVID-19 infection than the general population.

Well in the land of "everything's fine" it sure pays to be careful. Roxy and I'd decided her job weren't taking covid seriously enough. So she didn't go back to work when they re-opened. Well they got a call today. Another patient came in and later tested positive. STUPID idiots!!! They don't even require masks. So glad we said eff that and are hunkered down here with food and cannabis!
they're not even closing or changing anything. Just business as usual. No after hours extra cleaning crew or anything.

Sure sounds like a change of employer is in order. So glad Roxy did not go back to work. Very glad.

It really is a shame. We saw this coming and were expecting it.
We still are friends with everyone there and we hope they all stay safe and healthy.

So our mayor placed us under a mandatory mask rule. It was weird going into the store for my morning diet mountain dew and seeing 8 of the 10 people in there wearing masks. You should see the local social media arguments though about "muh freedums".
This may or may not be at odds with Governor Kemp's executive order. If he fights it then we can very much lay blame at his feet when things get worse. If he lets it be then cities like Atlanta might follow our lead.
It would be really cool to see Van Johnson get some political recognition. I've been here 20 years and he's my favorite mayor so far.

Man, that's what I'd love for my town to do. THe next county over from us has a mask mandate and the anti-mask crowd are protesting today and lawsuit has already been filed.

I was looking at some case numbers this morning, “Social Distancing” really does work. Back in in the end of March when we started to “shut down” the virus was doubling every 4-5 days. Case numbers taken from John Hopkins University.
03-24 - 54k
03-28 - 122k
04-02 - 244k
Doubling every 4 days
Most everything in the populated areas of the US got "locked down" and shut down. 30 days later at the end of march the growth rate slowed by around 10Xs. Took a few weeks to “flatten the curve”.
4-29- 1M
06-08- 2M
Doubling every 40 days
In May Commercial stores start to open up by June we are starting to head back to the natural growth rate of the virus. Many southern states seem to be doubling cases in 14 days with limited lock down.
Florida
06-22 100k
06-30 152k
Growing by 50% in 8 days(with rumors of under reporting)
Florida seems to still be in denial, Governor Desantis thinks he can just close a few beaches and require masks. It will be interesting to see how that ages.
Texas
06-30 163k
06-14 88k
Almost double in 2 weeks
Texas is starting to roll back the openings, they seem a little slow on the draw.
Arizona
06-30 79k
06-16 39k
Double in 2 weeks
Not sure about AZ ?
A mask is not social distancing, it is a distraction. The real tool that works is to close commercial and social centers which are major vectors of spread.

Man, with 6000+ a day for a month, you guys should be running out of people soon! I guess that's one way to beat this thing.
We had our 7th case over the weekend. It is a medical professional who travels to the area to provide services. He brought it with him from Texas.
I had a big ol' rant typed about how stupid people are for arguing like a 2 year old about wearing masks, but apparently the cyber space wizards didn't like it because it vanished while I was typing. Short version; Wearing a mask isn't going to kill you, but not wearing a mask might kill someone else. Be an adult and put the dang thing on!

Yeah with 6000+ per day and a governor doing all he can to exacerbate the situation I don't expect FL to improve any time soon.

I just watch a video about a fight in an Arkansas bar over someone not wearing a mask. People got punched and a bottle was broke over someones head. So many things backwards.. First off why are they in a bar during a pandemic ? and How do you drink with a mask on ?
So these guys go into a bar mingle with 20 people, have the police and EMTs come mingle with them and a couple of them go to jail mingle with another couple of hundred people in close quarters.
Was a mask necessary or.. maybe staying home would be better ?
Seems as if not wearing a mask can kill you now days also. Some people love to have a reason to attack.

Just because a business paid for the study, doesn't mean it is bad science. There has been a lot of research that mask wearing slows the rate of infection in society. Of course, there is nothing wrong with being skeptical before this is published in a peer-reviewed journal.
We're still doing our mission on Fort Benning and we've implemented every control we can think of. Soldiers with high-risk family are telecommuting. Anyone that gets tested stays home, then goes into isolation if they are positive. Anyone with close contact is quarantined. Mask wearing and hand washing are mandatory. Everyone is screened at work with health questions and temperature checks. Soldiers are banned from leaving their homes except to go to work, exercise, camp, or conduct "essential business." Any travel outside a very narrow radius requires a general officer's signature. Organized PT is cancelled. And so on...
Still, if the state gets bad, so will we.

I have yet to see a single soldier here wear a mask in uniform. I only see them at the stores and such so it might be different on base (Hunter AAF) and I assume some of the people that see wearing masks are soldiers in civilian clothes. But it's weird I never see them wearing a mask in uniform.
I seen maybe 3 cops out of a hundred wearing a mask also around town.

Haven't seen my cop neighbors masking up. But I don't see them on duty ever. They work in a town 30 miles away. The local cops don't seem to be wearing masks at all.

If I saw a Soldier in uniform breaking General Order #4, he'd regret it. The rules may be different at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield, but they are written very clearly here.

I'm required to wear a mask if working w/in six feet of another person -- and of course, if I'm working, I'm in uniform -- that'd be OCP's for anyone that cares...
Can't imagine my Air Wings doing it different from all the rest...
