B.C. Just went in to stage three of opening and already starting to report an increase of cases and deaths. And they are still negotiating opening the border with Washington in a few weeks. Oh ya here it comes.

I think we're the third most populous state. Its going to get a lot worse if no one takes charge here soon.

This local sheriff is famous for his no-nonsense approach to fighting crime and problems in the community. He's someone Floridians have come to love.
Here's his frustration with the state gov't.

Just completed my two day drive from Columbus, OH to Cheyenne, WY.
Decided not to do planes and rental cars this trip...

Delighted to never pay more than $2.09/gal for gas with a low of $1.71/gal in Iowa. Diesel was also still cheap at less than $2.50 and as low as $1.99/gal

One troubling observation -- of the five cars I saw pulled over in various states (inner-state hwys) all of them were getting full vehicle searches. It's hot out in the middle of the day to go through that... All the vehicles looked like clean new family cars -- not like mine! Just seemed weird -- I'd hate to have to unpack a Skoolie...

My hotel in Cheyenne of choice is business as usual to include breakfast. I'm told they've been at capacity since opening back up in June.

Hi David.
What do you think the searches were about? Is this a smuggling thing? Hide it in a brand new car?

I wonder if it was in states that border legal recreational MJ states.

would SURE suck to get locked up during this pandemic.
My aunt is a bit loony... she's a correctional officer in northern AL and a hardcore covid denier and anti-masker. She posts at least a half dozen ridiculous conspiracy things a day to social media. She swears masks are the problem and that the virus is just the common cold. god I feel bad for the inmates at the facility she's working in. they're at her mercy and she's a complete idiot to the nth degree.

From an AMA on Reddit with an ER Dr in AZ-
Quote:
Phoenix area ER nurse here. Morale is generally low amongst the staff on the floor. The COVID patients are pouring in and we don't have the resources. Dept of health services will tell you that ICUs are 90% full but that's a fantasy. ICU patients are sitting in the ER for 24 hours and, in some cases, are being sent in ambulances to different hospitals. Lung bypass units (ECMO) are basically gone, machines to continuously filter the blood (CRRT) are basically gone, we're out of the "nice" ventilators and are utilizing previously retired and replaced "surge" ventilators and transport ventilators. It's rough.

We are using the same n95 for a week to two weeks in a row before they are put in a biohazard bin to be "reprocessed" while many hospital workers are out with COVID. The masks are signed out to us and we have to literally sign our name to make sure that we aren't requesting new masks too frequently. We don't have enough tests, and when you can manage to get one it takes weeks for the results to come back. A coworker just waited 9 days for her COVID PCR swab to result. 9 days for a front line worker to get test results.

We are failing miserably at every possible level and it's supremely discouraging. If you come in to my hospital were going to give you excellent care, but people are getting restless. The people who take care of you are going to do their best to smile and give you the best possible care under the circumstances, all in the face of a system that is in crumbling in every direction around them.

We need the public to listen. I would love to put this on hospital admin, they're a great scapegoat and I have no love for upper admin. But they're in this too, they don't want employees writing novels on reddit, they don't want to recycle respirators, and they definitely want happy healthy patients. But the public doesn't care, they've lost all interest in the face of an inexplicably politicized nightmare situation. We're overwhelmed, overworked, and it looks like it's only getting worse.

Edit: Thank you everyone so much for the very unexpected outpouring of support! Sometimes it can feel like the general public has forgotten, or is just choosing to ignore what's happening in the hospitals and I never expected thousands of people to hit the little up vote button. I've never gotten any reddit flair before and now I have enough to make a golden grille for my respirator.

Some people have asked what they can do and my only answer is to continue to be diligent about masking and social distancing. Maybe consider donating blood as it's still very much needed and always in short supply. And then, of course, go out and elect politicians who won't turn a public health crisis into a political show. The governor of AZ held a press conference yesterday and all he did was cap restaurant capacity at 50%. If you think this is a problem, tell him in the polls. Thanks so much everyone!

Thanks for the response.
That could make sense, just seems a little heavy handed on the police part if they had no reason to suspect something other than just traveling between states.

33.5% positivity rate down in Miami! Reefer units at the Hillsborough medical examiner's office-

43 hospitals have full icu's. Its not a good time to be in FL at all. I'm not at all religious, but if you are please say a prayer for us. We're on our own with this thing going totally unmitigated.

They're under-counting deaths to minimize everything. Schools start back in 4 weeks. https://wptv.com/rebound/excess-deat...oll-in-florida

Didn't the Dead teach you anything. We already WERE on our own...

.....There's a fear down here we can't forget
Hasn't got a name just yet
Always awake, always around
Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.....

.....Heartless powers try to tell us what to think
If the spirit's sleeping then the flesh is ink
History's page will be neatly carved in stone
The future's here, we are it, we are on our own
On our own, on our own, we are on our own.....

.....So the kids, they dance, they shake their bones
And the politicians throwing stones
Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.....

.....And the politicians throwing stones
So the kids, they dance, they shake their bones
'Cause it's all too clear we're on our own
Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down
Ashes, ashes, all fall down

Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
It's dizzying, the possibilities.....

My mom works for a company that imports and exports disposable medical gear (masks, gowns, etc.). They are part of the air-bridge thing-a-ma-bob.

She worked at home all though the last 3 day weekend to get stuff. She has been working typically 60-80 hours a week since they shut the office back in March.

I don't think it's as simple as that...
Something I worried about with CO tags when I was moving to OH and making several drives back and forth but was never stopped...

A couple of my co-workers here (WY National Guard) are LEO for various agencies and I do plan to ask 'cause I'm always noisy that way...

I will presume (read hope) there was probably 'cause in all those cases but...

-One of our Soldiers was attending an Army school. Another student had symptoms and tested positive. All instructors and students went into quarantine - our guy tested negative but is still in quarantine.

-Another Soldier's wife tested positive. He went into quarantine. They were especially afraid because their son is totally disabled in a wheelchair and a ventilator. Nobody else in the family got sick - our guy just finished his 14-day quarantine and is back at home.

-One of our Soldiers ate dinner and spent a lot of time with another Soldier who tested positive. He is now in quarantine also. Our guy has no symptoms so can't get a test.

-Another Soldier's wife is having difficulty breathing, so he's in quarantine at his house with her. Our Soldier has no symptoms, but his wife is awaiting test results.

This is just the last few days. Every hospital in the area is full, except for "surge" capacity. Few Soldiers are high risk and few are hospitalized, but there are a lot of vulnerable family members here. The contact tracers are busy, because every positive case results in a bunch of other Soldiers in quarantine.
