Is the increase in positive tests the result of an increase in testing?

My place of work has been doing the medical screening thing for several months now. They just announced they will be conducting mandatory brain tickle testing every two weeks. Although I'm not crazy about being told I have to take the test every two weeks, I am very grateful I still have a job. Along with that, I'm a bit at ease knowing I'll be tested that often so I will know for sure if I catch it and can do everything in my power to not spread it, especially to my elderly mother and other family members with preexisting factors. Besides, if I do test positive, the job will continue to pay me until I test negative.

That's how businesses should be doing things.

I've got a buddy out of work for a couple weeks. They had an anti-mask delivery driver who came in infected last week. Not many businesses in FL are doing that at all though. Only one I've heard about.

A company a friend works at here in Columbus just told me --new policy -- travel ban to FL for employee's. If you go to FL you will get 14 days of unpaid mandatory leave before returning to work...

Harsh on the one hand; totally reasonable to protect the workforce and company on the other...

At this point all I can hope for is in another month, most everybody in FL will directly know somebody that's died or is suffering with slow recovery and then the light-bulb will go off inside all the wee-little heads...

Stay safe!

Honestly the cult of denial here is so strong I don't think their minds can be changed. Even with personal loss.

Today its looking pretty grim as usual. 9,446 new cases today's report. 9,384 residents and 62 non-residents. 20.3% positive from 46,466 tests new individuals. 216 resident death and 1 non-resident death 217 total death. 585 Hospitalizations. Tested positive Median age 42.

It looks like Florida has finally found a way to lower their daily positive test count! Per the Florida Health COVID 19 website, all state-supported testing sites will be closed July 31st through August 4th. Can’t report a number if nobody is testing and counting...

Morally reprehensible -- the "logic" confounds me...

They have a hurricane moving in. Most of the state is supposed to be shutting down for a few days. Probably the best thing that could happen there right now... At least it should keep people from congregating in large groups.

Unfortunately, that just means a bigger spike when they resume testing next week.

Last I heard its a tropical storm and we'll get a bunch of rain. That's according to a meteorologist I know.
This is WAY more preparedness than usual. Its almost certainly a covid/political move. Schools open SOON. My county is 75% in favor of face to face schooling. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Right now, the media is reporting the reason as preparation for the tropical storm Isaias.

In Georgia news I got excited because Chatham County mandated masks beginning at midnight tonight. Our mayor mandated them at the beginning of the month. Once Atlanta followed suit our governor sued them to say they cannot mandate. But the lawsuit isn't getting anywhere. Our mayor kind of doubled down and the county issued the mandate as the governor's executive order was set to expire.

But he extended his EO again and says we can't mandate masks.

I can't wait to move out of this shithole state.
