Finding Cheap Goodies for your Project.

I've started on a short bus conversion.
I found a nice MC8 for $1,800 and ran fine. What killed the deal was the DMV here in my state requires over $3,000.00 yearly reg and just doubled the weight taxes to 2.25lb. I am not even going to mention the insurance so I had to scale waaayy back to a 25 passenger bus.
Where I currently live the really big problem is EVERYTHING HAS TO BE SHIPPED IN. That costs allot of money.

I am going to skin some of the windows on the bus and after pricing sheet metal WOW..$$$$$
Generator $$$ and more $$$.

So I thought and while mulling over ideas and partaking in undisclosed amounts of beer; a light bulb went off DING...

AUCTIONS...

GOVERNMENT AUCTIONS......

MILITARY SURPLUS AUCTIONS....

I started to cackle and gimp around on my broken foot - wife looked nervous and was reaching to lock the house door with me still outside. ( remember this is the same wonderful wife where the wrench "ate" her dress )..

So I went online and looked; sure enough eureka cheap crap for pennies on the dollar.

Type military auctions and you will find them.. YOUR tax dollars at work LoL...

One auction had two LARGE freezers eight feet long and eight feet high and around three and a half feet deep. The wife thought I was nuts to buy TWO STAINLESS STEEL Freezers that did not work for $50.00. I looked at her an said; "Honey" now I have all the sheet metal I need to skin the windows on the bus and in STAINLESS STEEL no less. She looked at me and asked how was I going to haul these monsters?
I told her no problem come over here. Sitting there is a two axle 16' foot flat bed trailer with pintle hitch; my truck has one on it. I told her I had also bought that as well for $300.00.
Another item I showed her is a generator 10Kw also bought for $200.00. They run; I inspected them before bidding.

I am stuck on an island and choices are limited; BUT you bus nuts are on the mainland and have way more choices.
Heck I even see buses up for auction ALL THE TIME..

Thanks,
My neighbors are having fun watching me go at the freezers with the air cutter.
Oh and the freezers don't have any refrigerant in them; the "military" took it out??

One site is http://www.govliquidation.com/

I also check the GSA and Federal Marshell's web site.

Check and see if your city/state has auctions and or an auction web site.
