Getting the bed in the bus

I'm considering purchasing a conventional skoolie to convert. I have a queen size mattress and box springs.

My questions are these:
1. Is the rear door uniform in size across the board for all manufacturers?
2. What is the height of the rear door and the diagonal measurement? (contingent on door size being uniform)
3. Do I just need to bring it in the front entry door?
4. What is the height of the front entry door?
5. Has anyone done this?

I realize I can just taco the mattress in and put it on a platform but the bed was expensive and I don't want to ditch the box springs if I can get away with it.

May be able to get it through the service door, but not the rear door.

i tried both as i was moving out of my old place ended up putting it on top of a durango

The front door that everyone uses. The largest door unless you have an amtran with a giant wheelchair door.

You can buy two piece box springs that will go in without damage. The mattress will go in the front door with a bit of persuasion.

I already have a box springs. I don't want to have to throw away a grand worth of furniture to spend however much it costs to buy a new one. I'll look into it as a last resort if I can't do anything else.

The one I'm looking at is a 1994 Chevy 9 window conventional. Automatic with a gas motor.

Most people build a platform and put the mattress on top, saving the space underneath for storage, or the installation of water tanks.

I've not heard of people using a box spring before.

I understand your concerns about the box spring. However, as Twigg observed, most people do away with that in favor of more storage. In addition, the box spring will put you at a higher level in the bus (think nose bleed section of a stadium in comparison). I sympathize with your dilemma. It's not fun spending money on something you find out later you can't use - especially for such a large amount of money.

My wife and I were flooded out in hurricane Harvey. We lost our bed. That turned out to be a blessing because when we went to the mattress store we explained our situation about building our bus to the salesman. Interestingly enough we found out his family is doing a conversion as well. So he introduced us to the idea of a power bed that adjusts, but is thin enough to eliminate the need for a box spring. Another plus is the storage under the bed. It's ridiculously easy to access, and there's lots of it as well. So that's the way we went.

Your situation is different. Unfortunately there is no easy way to get that box spring into the bus without risking damage. As sad as it is to say, your best bet is to sell it and get something more appropriate that will fit into the bus. I hate to say that but, unfortunately, it's true.

im raising my roof and plan on replacing my back door with a large emergency window that will open and let me get my queen size box springs in one could make the door bigger also but like you i will have my box spring as i like a comfortable bed

or take out 3 windows and put a removable cover there that would open up

i got split windshield this still wont work

Get an air mattress. Then just inflate it once indoors.
