That $640 truck seems to be sucking up a lot of money.

You are technically aware of how to align the driveshaft to eliminate the vibration?

You sound like me- my gov deals Ram pickup needs a brake line.

I only have a little rust around the rear wheel wells, but it looks crappy. They sell rust-repair panels that tack-in and look great.

I just love GovDeals beaters. Even if I spend as much time wrenching on them as driving them!

The dodge is still more robust and reliable than the Chevy Z71 to the left. Its in the process of being lemoned. Shaun's lawyer filed a lawsuit.

old pump. Man, it had a LOT of play in that bearing, but never leaked and always did its job. Never fully failed, thankfully. Caught this one in time!

fan and new fan clutch installed

Shroud and everything pretty much buttoned back up.

All done, just burping the system of air.

Sweet looking red truck. What's wrong with it? Anything you can fix?

Took the van for a good 15 mile run. Ran it hard.
Temp stays right where its always stayed. No leaks.

It did idle a little rough at first, but the tank was low and it had sat for a month. A couple cans of seafoam and 5 gallons for now, and it seems to be all smoothed out. I'll run the concentrated gas/seafoam for a few gallons then fill the tank and do one more bottle of seafoam.
This thing has a HUGE fuel tank!

Nice. I've tried driving them without the weights. It's ugly.

Driving around after work today the van did great. Goes to its operating temp and stays right there. Success!

I'm still getting a bit of a whine from the rear end. From 50-55 if I accelerate it lets out a whine. Goes away if I let off. What yall think?

were the ring and pinion gears new? i cant remember.. Numerically higher (lower ratio) rears tend to be a little noisier .. it also could be if the gears arent new that when they put iot back together they used the same spacing and set up that it was before and didnt measure the pinion depth and position right/ left of the ring gear?

or the pinion bearing was bad for awhile and caused a bit of a different wear pattern on the gears so even set up correctly they wont be perfect..

I never worried unless a whine was really loud...

they may just need to pop the punkin cover and move the carrier a little.. i can never remember on these things whuch direction it needs to go for whine on power vs off... usually whine on power and off power ends up being pinion depth not set right...

ultimately the whine is how the gear teeth are meshing.. when setting these up I always had a paste i put on the gears.. you rotate, shim or adjust (manufacturer different).. paste - spin, and when you get the pattern to match the manufacturer spec.. and your pinion depth matches spec you are good..

its a bit of an art to set up a rear to be nice N quiet..

I'll take it over to the guy who rebuilt it and see if he'll adjust that. Thanks

Or...you can do what I saw a used car dealer do years ago. Pull the back plate off and pack it full of bananas. Skins and all. Really quieted that whiner down. And he swore that the "oil" was good for the gears.

I was always told the used car guys would pack a rear end full of sawdust to quiet it down.

You get that witchcraft out of here. I'm with Robin. I've only heard of sawdust and that was from my old man's days.
