Yeah up till about 08, maybe 09 they were your classic Subarus. The top ends were hand assembled.
Now its robots putting together Chinese parts.
Even the FANBOYS on the subaru sites who used to rag on me for speaking up about these cars are having horrible failures and have come around about the quality control issues.

Yeah, that 96% claim (and most such stats) are pretty much meaningless unless you've got more context. For all we know, 96% of all Subarus made in the last 12 years were made in the last 4 years.

The service dept was FULL of recall cars and they got two calls about oil consumption in the fifteen minutes I was there.
Why don't you try one and see?

That would mean only 4% were made spread over 8 years. Sorry Subie ain't selling that many cars in the last 4.

The survey was done by R.L.Polk, an independent market research company.

I’m convinced that the only way to have new cars is to lease them where they never leave warranty.. if it turns out to be a good car you want to keep you either buy out the lease or the finance company will often tell you which auction house it’s going to and you go bid on it.
For me I like flexibility.. since I drive my busses all over I no longer need 2cara, my Malibu 2 year lease was up I turned it in and walked away, no 5 year commitment and having to sell it.. my 17 Dodge Ram only has 6k miles on it and it has 16 months left then I’ll update to the latest

thats crap!!! did the belt fly off or clutch burn up? or does the compressor just not kick in? if it just doesnt kick in, more chances than not the refrigerant leaked out someplace.. esp since you said the A/C was getting weak, makes me wonder if it just hot that low pressure threshold and disabled itself.

It doesn't kick in. I think the clutch on the compressor is toast. At 67k miles, no less!

Does it click like it's trying to kick in? If not it could also be the relay/solenoid. Whenever mine have failed in the past they would still tick.

nope, no tick. Just a high pitch sound like a jet and no cooling.
I can't get rid of this car fast enough.

Well, that sucks. Are you going to fix it, or list it for sale as-is?

sure sounds almost like the compressor.. so when you hit the A/C button it goes from quiet to the high pitch squeal, and the center disc of the compressor doesnt turn, only the outer pulley?

the 16 sTi my buddy had, he said his A/C was wicked cold.. but someone else who had a imprezza said they were lucky to stay cool on an 85 degree day... yet another inconsistency.. perhaps it was over-charged from the factory which results in lackluster cooling and early destruction of the compressor or its clutch

You won't need A/C, flip flops or shorts.

I'd rather be in the tropics with no ac than be a popsicle!!

So- now I get NOTHING when I turn on the ac. Either the solenoid, the clutch, or the whole compressor.

if the compressor went bad.. it may have gotten hot and caused a leak.. so the refrigerant leaked out and the system wont try when that happens.. once the Low pressure switch opens it wont even try to kick the compressor..

Oh- I found out these systems don't actually have a dryer. They put dessicant packs in the system and they're known to break down causing expensive problems.

IDK if I can afford to pay to fix this but I really want to sell this car. What's my first step?
Fix the ac and slap some new tires on it and BYE BYE!
