with the engine turned off, reach in and see if you can spin the center disc on the compressor by hand.. obviously the outer is stopped by the belt.. but the inner should rotate (albeit a little stiff) by hand... if it doesnt, then the compressor is nuked from the inside.. if the compressor spins by hand, need to get a gauge on it and see if it has refrigerant..

OK! Thanks a ton man!
I went out and checked and yes the center of the compressor does spin freely by hand.
What's my best option for a gauge?

Called the dealer that did the recall work. They're going to look at it today. Gotta drive through horrible traffic but at least there's a cannabis dispensary right down the street.

did they have to take the freon out when they pulled the engine? or did they just set the compressor aside? makes me wonder if they jacked something up...

They had to take the freon out. That explains the extra o-ring I found when I picked up the car originally. Turns out they forgot to replace that o-ring.
Its working now, didn't take em too long.
Got some Rick Simpson Oil at the dispensary. It definitely makes me hungry. I think I'll have four marijuanas.

They're going up in value. Something about the plastic toy trucks of today has folks wanting the steel of yesterday.
I had an 80's Suburban with the same drivetrain. Loved it.
Both my grandads had these. One had a service truck with utility bed and straight six. The other had a Blazer then a 4x4 86 half ton short bed.

I was looking for a work truck, but they were all $6000+ for a 20+ year old truck. UGGG, $4000+ for a 30+ year old truck. UGGG. I got my 1986 4×4 truck for $1000 in 1998. Hawai'i (acid rain from volcanic emissions) and living on the beach (salt life! and the waves pounded the 20' cliff shoreline there, making plenty of mist in the wind) ate it alive. I just retired it last year (running well, but holes in the roof). Got my 1984 4×4 truck for $5000 in 1989. It's in storage (waiting for another trip S. of the border) and needs a tranny, but it still rocks. Then Obama shot all the old vehicles in the head...
Anyway...
That's how I got into a bus. All the space I need to haul my 1.5-ton+ load for $2285. Plus I can live in it, and it's cool.
But what you just got is the kinda thing I would want, if not a bus...old Chevy

Yeah I totally didn't want to spend this much on a truck but the ones for less are much more beaten on generally.
Rust is the number one enemy of these trucks. My grandad's was bought new and within a couple years of ownership was already rusting. He towed a boat to the coast with it though. Salt water and GM paint... bad combo.

I had to do floors on one of the ones i had... luckily never had bad cab corners..
the second one I had a was a STRIPPED "custom deluxe". but was No rust.. and it came with a FREE completely rusted out Cheyenne where the guy had lost the battle trying to keep up with the rust but the interior was like new.. so thats where my second one got its AC and such from..
back when I had mine junkyards were full of these. so parts were easy and cheap..
the beautty of a fire truck is that they typically dont have the rust.. they are washed often and garaged lots..
what engine / trans are in that one? 350 and a 4 speed? or 3 speed with granny?
