Chances are you will not get better than 10mpg no matter what you buy.

Re: Help me pick out a bus

I suppose 15mpg might be within the realm of possibility if you got a short bus and just the perfect engine, transmission and gear ratio combination... but what are the chances of finding that?! I think 10mpg is a more realistic expectation. My mid-sized bus gets 8mpg. I have a fairly large engine, and a non-lockup transmission, not sure about my gear ratio, but even if I had a more economical drivetrain, I still don't think I'd do better than 10mpg.

Re: Help me pick out a bus

Maybe you could get 15mpg if you get a short bus with a van chassis, like an E350 kinda thing without the dual wheels... But is that really a bus? It's really more like a large van - kind of like an ambulance. At that point you should consider getting a Dodge Sprinter Van. The 3 liter Mercedes diesel engine on those gives you like 25mpg. They are hard to find for less than $15,000 though.
