I have a 1981 ford Bluebird 65 Passenger school bs with a 370 ford 2 barrel engine. The bus has a large heavy roof rack on it wich i aproximate at about 2k pounds. I also need to transport 29 people at about 185lbs average along with 60lbs of gear each for a total of about 6860 pounds. In addition to that I have to take another 1200 lbs in missilanious equiptment. Will my 370 for be abl to handle the load? Does anyone have this engine or a similer one and hauled that much? The total weight on top of curb weight adds up to a little over 10,000k lbs. I can shave off about 500 pounds but would that even make a difference? Thanks!
if it were mine i would figure 200lb x 66 which would be 13,000 not including the empty bus weight. (like if i were hauling heavy kids ... ), so your total weight will be less than that. anyway, that chassis/engine combination hauled 28,000 lbs in one delivery trucks that my dad had back then. the thing should be running at least 900x 20 tires...10's would be better.
with that weight, it won't take off real fast, nor go up hills real fast, but if it has a 2 spd will drive fine or most roads.

My bus weighs 23.000 and then add 18 people with coolers or 3 motorcycles plus coolers or a canoe, motorcycle and coolers and I easily top 25,000 and that little 427 hardly notices the difference. You can haul it all and should do fine, I think my gross is about 32,000 so I have never really met that..... yet. sportyrick
