In the Meantime...

So I bought my bus, waiting on the Vermont DMV for the registration (thanks for the great info on that), and now we just became Eastern Kentucky land barons. Being an old Death Metal stoner high school dropout I never thought I would be at a point in my life where I could just write a check for $45k but God is good and we just closed on 23.4 acres near the Red River Gorge.

Anyway, it's going to be at least a year before we can get the bus ready and move out there. In the meantime, what can I do that is nature friendly to keep the weeds at bay on the bulldozed area that will eventually be the garden area? It's already getting overgrown from what you see in the pictures.

Cool property. I like the terrain. I'm surprised it has water and fiber internet at the driveway. What a score! I would maybe try to throw some weed fabric across it with railroad ties or stones to hold it down. It wont be 100% effective, but maybe like 98% if installed right. I bought 100ft rolls x 10ft for around $50 2 years ago. Depending on how much you need, you maybe be able to find better rolls for your use.

It has a creek too, in addition to fiber! Good going and congratulations.

For what you might spend trying to keep the weeds from growing, you could likely get a new neighbor to come out next season and plow-under all the new, free, green fertilizer that will grow there. In one years time, all the new growth will be tender small stuff, not trees.

find you an old small lawn tractor with attachments and as said let it grow some then till it.
you will want the plow for garden time anyway.
i think spending the money to try to cover it with a good fabric and keep it at bay like that would be close to the price of a small used garden tractor with attachments.
and will serve you better in the long run to develop a new property.

Put clover on the area you want managed. (The deer will help you this way).

That's a great idea. Particularly for a future garden area as the clover is nitrogen-fixing.

Thanks for this!
