Maybe you had some sticky valves. You should change your fluid if you haven't done so. It seems that is one thing many people neglect. They change their oil every 3000 mile but when you ask them about the tranny, they say they didn't know that it needed to be changed.

i concur with the above guys. probably something freed up and is shifting like a champ now. Also doing a tranny flush/change will show you some history on the bus as to if it was actually serviced as it should have been and if it was driven hard (burnt smelling fluid)

I don't know anything about sealed trannys. I try to service my trannies(transmissions not transvestites) every 20k miles. Replacing trannys sucks and is not cheap. My cars do a lot of idling and go up and down many hills. Not changing the fluid will shorten tranny life.

old 91 f150 i got had 250k km on it. had shifting problems and took it to get changed. guy said the marks from the factory were still on the pan for it. it had NEVER been changed. sadly it wasnt soon enough for that tranny and it never did fully recover... would max out on highway at 110 km/hr empty

yes and no to the shifting. some newer ones get a memory to them and will drive and shift like you usually drive it. this usually applies to the computer controlled ones though.

some heavier shifting is normal but not like 'omg my rear end just fell out" feeling.

Millicent did something similar, and that had to do with the modulator cable. Please have all these things checked by a pro.
