Issues with Marker Lights

Hi All,

I re-wired my bus (basically the same as it was) but using LED lights to replace the old marker lights. When I go to turn them on, they turn on for a moment and then off. This happen 2 or 3 times before they stop doing that.

Further, oddly, the fronts are bright but as you go down the bus, they get more dim as you walk further down the bus.

Any suggestions on what could be wrong or where to look?

Greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks,
James

to help us help you better?
go to the user control panel and fill out your profile.
or post make, model, year stuff here.
did you run all new wiring or use the existing light wiring?
did your new LEDS require an add in relay or resistor of some sort?
i havent done the upgrade yet but have read up on it some?
does your new lights still ground through the mounting screws or did you have to run or have a ground wire for them?
but those questions are to help us get started?

Combination of new wiring and old. Old was 1 wire system, new is 2 wire. Grounded. Turn signals work perfect. First 10 marker lights work but second set is faded. You can hear it click on/off. Talked to one of my electrician buddies and he stated I might need a power relay.

FWIW, I did a full LED conversion with additional markers along the side:

Could you provide video of this?

Sounds like a possible voltage drop. Have you measured voltage on a bright light near the front and a dimmer light near the rear?

This is going to be a process to troubleshoot as we're not there with you to help, we can only make guesses as to the next thing to look at. So the more detailed and accurate information you can provide us, the closer we can get to an educated guess.

A few questions:

  • How exactly did you wire your marker lights?
  • Do you have the means to measure current on a DC wire?
  • Do you have a 12V power source separate from the bus to test lights with?

I second on the current test, wonder if he's tripping a circuit breaker.

Also make sure the grounds on your batteries and lights are very good.
