I've thought about starting a thread of Skoolies that don't look like Skoolies. I know, not for everyone, some like the skoolie look. I just like to see what can be done....

"Looking for not-hipster bus builds"... "I'm looking for something not covered in stained wood or corrugated metal"!!!! In the immortal words of Jeremy Clarkson... I laughed so hard, a lil poo shot out! LMAO

Its going to be our pirate ship...our space exploration rig, and I would like it to reflect that not in a cheesy way, sorta more of a military'esk expedition sorta vibe. I have already done some extensive searching and I know how it goes posting on a forum...someone is always gonna wanna chime in with the "you know there is a search function" haha.

Yeah me and my girlfriend are just finishing up our bus.
It's more like con air from the outside. But NYC on the inside. I wanted it to feel really modern. If you have a Facebook or Instagram look me up Mateomakes

Basically just dont look for buses on Instagram or Pinterest. Budget bus. The original. Was one of the first buses on YouTube and he had flat blast exterior wit flames to give you an idea of what he had going on.

In Nor Cal at the Avenue of the Giants they have a functioning bus made from one redwood tree, minus motor other mechanicals. Steampunk looking contraption.

I'll start a thread once I get started on this. I am hoping the local high school or community college will take the frame stretching on as a project for this next year.

Well, if you look at those bands of windows running the full length on each side, and all the horizontal lines created by the rub/guard rails...
School buses aren't designed to be pretty, but I can envision an FLW-inspired creation - especially starting with a 1964-72 Superior, with its wraparound rear windows.
Skoolies are about as smart an investment as a bundle of Enron stock certificates. The good news in that is it means you might as well make it exactly as you want; damn the naysayers and full speed ahead!

If I had time enough, I'd build all of our cabinetry myself.....it's pretty much just boxes, after all, and I've got the tools and knowledge. I just don't have the time though, so we bought our kitchen cabinets from a big box store and gussied them up with faux legs to make it a little less kitchen-ey and a bit more furniture-ey. Simple little things like that can go a long way toward avoiding that generic look on the interior. The beauty of filling out this "blank canvas" yourself is that you can be sure it won't look like everyone else's. If you're not into a hipster aesthetic, there's absolutely no reason you should settle for it.
