Re: lovin the new work on the site !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it just me or does the site seem really slow since the new look. I'm at work now trying a different computer (thought it was mine at home) but my work machine is also slow. I'm sure these are just bugs that Steve needs to work out. But if no one has told him, I am.
Keep up the good work.

What happened to the forum I knew and loved?! I'd rather spend my time and effort learning NEW stuff, rather than just learning a different way to do same stuff.

Seems slower for me as well. Maybe things are still being worked on?

I agree the new format seems to be a bit slower.

Is it time to kick in to buy Steve a new server? If I recall correctly the machine that skoolie.net lives within wasn't the latest and greatest as of the LAST revision.

Re: lovin the new work on the site !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's kinda hard to complain when something is free, but this new setup is not a little slower, it's a lot slower. I have a cable modem, so I'm a bit spoiled. It takes anywhere from 5-10 times as long to load a page. It won't kill me to wait the extra time. I still appreciate the site and everything Steve does, but I want my name in bold red too.

Steve, put a PayPal button in here where I can find it, and I'll be happy to pitch in. Or PM me your snail mail address, and I'll dispatch some gold dust by carrier pigeon. You are providing a great service to the skoolie community, and I don't mind paying my share. I just hate having to learn new computer stuff. And I've managed just fine with dial-up... so far.

..... Grrrrrrrrrrr ... oldog, new tricks....... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
... If all it'll take is a new server.... HECK YES, I'll rob my piggy bank and PayPal a few shekels.... If we helped lapeer20m with his tow bill, I think we can get it together enough to get a proper server that would help us ALL out !!!

Re: lovin the new work on the site !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem is not the server, this is site is running on software that is not finished and it will only get better from here out.
The server is only a year and a half old you can view the topic about when I moved us to it here:
http://www.skoolie.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1029
The server room it sits in has changed and looks a little like it does in this thread but with many more computers now.
http://www.skoolie.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1131
The server is 1.5GHz which is plenty for our usage, here is a graph from how much of that power we are actually using from the last 7 days. Those spikes are from when the server does it's daily/weekly/monthly backups and if you were to hit the server at one of those times it would probably be very slow.
These backups create 865MB compressed files each day so if you were to look at the uncompressed data we are shoving a lot of bits around.
The server only has 512 MB of RAM so maybe I should invest in more memory so that more data can be cached.

Re: lovin the new work on the site !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Find your RAM and let us know how much we need to send you. As for the software...I think we're all patient enough to deal with that.

It seems to have improved a lot in the past day or so. If you would like donations, don't be shy. I have no problem contributing a few bucks whatsoever.
