Maxxforce swap

Maxxforces are (were) good engines before all the emissions stuff killing them.
This could be interesting for someone with a DT:

off-road engine.. navistar tried to be like CAT and made off-road engines for military. a regulat maxxforce can be deleted into one of these engines. . you have to be able to gut a military spec ECM and steal the software from it.. (at one time the US govt disallowed the sale of the military ECMs because they were fully non emission).

Is it possible with ServiceMaxx and a Nexiq, or would we have to involve a Navistar dealer?

to off-road a Maxxforce takes a couple things.

1. ServiceMaxx Pro God-mode
2. NavKal and a Valid subscription to it
3. Engine Serial Number of an Off-road Maxx-force Engine (or a Non-emissions Export)
4. VIN number of a military or other vehicle that may have used such engine as above.

the servicemaxx God mode allows you to change the VIN and Engine serial number in the ECM

when you plug an ECM in and run NavKal it goes to the navistar cloud and downloads the latest firmware for the ECM part number as well as the latest calibrations for the VIN / Engine serial number you input.

the VIN may not be as important as the engine serial number.

Doing this should be done for purely Test, education, learning, and off-road use.. and not used on a US / Canadian Highway..

The 10 is essentially a stroker maxxforce DT with heavy duty everything

Maxxforces are (were) good engines before all the emissions stuff

MaxxForce did not exist "before .... emissions stuff". Lots of miss information being regurgitated about MF being synonymous & homogenized.

The VT/Powerstoke (VT275, VT365, MF7) engine family was produced by Navistar International from 2003 to 2016.
The DT (360ci, 466ci, 570ci) was produced 1971-2016. Variants MFDT, MF9, MF10, and big bore MF11, MF13 arrive 2007 & 2008.

In 2007, both the VT and DT engine families were rebranded under the MaxxForce brand name. 2007+ adds diesel particulate filter & exhaust gas recirculation.

The 466ci wet sleeve design was/is superior. The exhaust system on all maxxforker motors has always sucked.

As CadillacKid explained, software is the biggest hurtle. Why block swap a wet sleeve motor to remove exhaust components? Didn't take long to install a plate & drill a hole. Stroking the keyboard ($) hurt a little.

Very true. Bad idea, let's forget it. What's the point trying to get a factory deleted, 375hp $5000 new bolt on engine when one can just rebuild and try to find the correct parts to maybe make his own old engine more reliable, for about the same price.

The used bus market is flooded with those late Maxxforce era IC buses, especially around here. First Student and several other large fleets bought tons of them and are now trying to dump them but exporters don't seem to have too much interest in them for obvious reasons.

There's a flipper/dealer in northern Illinois that bought 5 IC CE's with the 6.4l Maxxforce, juice brakes and heavy rust. Its gonna be awhile before those get sold
