Just checking to see if there are any skoolie's down in S/E Florida.
Would like to meet up with skoolie locals.

I'm in Miami, gonna build a RE amtran, my friend Kat is building a FE international. Just raised the roof 18" on her bus, mine is next.

Anyone know where I can get my bus towed and repaired? We're broke down in Miami and are having problems finding anyone that will even tow it.

I hope you are off the road with it at least. Stay with it and the law should come along soon and help you get it towed somewhere for help.

Good luck folks,

John

I know an outfit in Orlando that will tow a bus. Johnson's Towing.
Cost $450ish to get ours towed about 20 miles.

We are finishing with one roof raise, for a friend of mine, went 18".

Mine is next, in the process of gutting it out.

Six? The site has been here closer to 18 years. (Nov 26, 2003; first skoolie thread below)

https://www.skoolie.net/forums/f11/1...version-1.html

You'll find the facts about that and how to complete a roof raise, as well, by reading the detailed answers awaiting your discovery.

Try the search feature and read the many responses to the question you seek. They are surely here on skoolie.net, but must be queried and read, by you. Good luck. Post pictures.

Thank you for the quick response but I read the date on the post as ewo1’s join date which is May 2015 (Im new, give me a break) In it I was referring to those 6 years SINCE I thought that message was written (having been 2015 would have made it 6 years according to mathematics) Also Im looking to have someone do the work for this specific job for me do to health issues, I know how its done and how to research and look for answers myself, Im not being lazy. I just hope not most people in this community are this rude seriously...cheers

Hi Chicken Little,

If I wasn't so damned overwhelmed with work right now I'd offer to help you raise it the roof. I am still knee deep in my build, finished my roof transition and still working on rust issues. also working two jobs doesn't help much with time management.....

After raising two roofs I will say this...it's alot of prep and work!
I'd be happy to look/ask around to see if I could get someone but let me say this, I having a really tough time finding regular workers. Seems like everybody wants an easy job making 1000 bucks a week, no one wants to sweat, do any kind of labor work.

What is wrong with society today?

I'd say this, if I were to go out and look for a helper/crew I would look into someone who is converting trailers into food trucks. They are already well versed on sheet metal work, plumbing and electrical.
The idea came up a few weeks ago. There is one very large food truck builder on the next corner from me and a new guy (small outfit) just opened up shop on the back corner... go figure.

I was thinking of approaching the new guy to see if he was interested in raising roofs.
I'll go talk to him and see what his thought about it are but I got a feeling it's not gonna be cheap/

One of the things that this community is big on is DIY. That keeps costs way down but it only works if you got the space to do it in.

I figure two guys, maybe three can do a complete tear down in a week of solid 40 hours work. seats, floors, windows, interior sheet metal...then comes the floor prep/rust remediation.

If you have all the materials ready to go I'd give that same crew another week for raising the roof and putting on the skins. This does not include windows..
I am being very optimistic with the 2 week window but let try for a perfect day in a not so perfect world..

So if your gonna hire out some help be prepared to pay a pretty penny in south Florida as even the Home depot guys want $150 - $200 a day...

I'd be happy to talk to you more about this and offer any support I can but labor wise, no can do right now.

First item on the list...Do you have a place where you can work on the bus or did you plan on the shop doing the work to have space?

Thanks for your help

Hey thanks for all that great info. Im storing the bus at the seller's bus lot in Coral Gables because I have nowhere else to store it till Im ready to leave to California with it, I have family to help me with the build there since im on my own here. I did find someone to remove the seats for $300 I have a temporary issue with my back but I do want to do everything else myself like floors walls elect plumbing, etc and if it wasnt that I have to load the contents of my storage unit into it I wouldn't be removing seats here (incidental can you confirm if for fl registration, do the seats need removed for decommissioning the school bus?) this registration / tittle issue is back and forth apparently no one seems to have a confirmed answer as everyone's experience varies.

As for where the work on the bus will be done, The lot owner is allowing me to do whatever I need to it there so long as I pay for monthly storage of $130 which is fine by me considering storage places run $400 a month and also I need my own power such as a generator. I live in davie but the bus is in Coral Gables So Im not sure why I was looking for help in fort lauderdale, I joined this site half asleep lol. Any guidance would be appreciated, Thanks for your interest.

$300 bucks for removing the seats, fair deal... would they remove the flooring too? That would be a sweet deal if they did!

As far as title/ registration - follow the instructions in this thread. The Coral gables tag agency knows how to do this.
https://www.skoolie.net/forums/f18/f...ons-21010.html

Seems like you also got a great deal on parking/work space.
I'm in cutler bay, real close to CG. let me know when you'll be there and I'll try to stop by.

Seats.... I forget on how many but after some number of seats you will need a P- passenger endorsement on your license.

To decommission the bus, remove seats, indtall either pluming or electrical.
Read the conversion affidavit in the other thread.

Converting an RV is alot of hard work and requires some reading. Didn't intend to to hurt your feeling with my written word.

If you have a job offering or would like some assistance, try to be clear, instead of asking us to point.

Is this an advertisement for work?
Are you looking for free help or are you offering pay?
Do you have the materials already or is that part of the bid package?
Will you supply welding electrical supply (100A+)?
Is this a shop, with overhead lifting available or is this outside work?

We can help if you'll lower your defenses. We do free work for skoolies, usually. Have had skoolies stay here and work on their buses, for free too. Just the facts, ma'am.

I actually got a call back this morning from the guy removing the seats, he will remove all the seats except for the two seats on the right which i asked him to leave and he will also dump them for me and only charge me $200. As for the affidavit, I chose the gas as I will be placing a coleman portable propane stove on a table (per a florida couple that successfully registered theres that way). The floors ill do once I start the conversion in Cali, The roof raise ill most like never be able to afford any time soon. heres my affidavit y typed up (made it very detailed in case anyone gave me issues or played dumb) and yeah id love to meet up and show you the bus.

Hello again, hope you're good. I had a question. Im pretty much ready to head to the tag agency and I thought I needed the affidavit signed by a notary, is that correct? did you have yours signed? why do I feel this is so impossible!

I'll try to be real nice here but your question really makes me..... wanna laugh.
Take a look at the bottom of the affidavit...

see the space for the NOTARY acknowledgement.... ????

Guess what needs to be done!

And don't forget to check off which of the three required components you installed,
A) 110v electrical wiring
b) Liquified petroleum gas piping
c) Installed plumbing system

Good luck!

I understand your frustration lol believe me but I made that affidavit myself based on a general template I found online, what I wanted to know is if you had a notary sign off on yours because the Florida CERTIFICATE OF TITLE REQUIREMENTS FOR RECREATIONAL
VEHICLES, packet does not specify that.
