Mice - ARgh!

Hey Folks,

Wondering if anyone else has had mice problems on their Skoolies?

The first two years we had the bus, parked in the woods, things were great and mice free... But over the last year they've gotten in and have been relentless setting up nests in drawers, nooks and crannies, and even my toolbox which had a bunch of pinkies in it! To think I was naive enough to think the bus was mice proof since it was so high off the ground.

Any tips for keeping the mice out? I've got two tin live traps baited with mouse poison (so that I can collect them instead of having them dead in the walls) and a bucket trap that seems to be keeping on top of the problem but the smell every time we come back is most terrible and lasts for days... I first noticed them in the overhead compartment above the windshield on the top right, I can't imagine how they got in there but I'm think maybe they've made there way through the engine compartment and maybe through the wiring? Lots of droppings in the engine area... Oh yeah it's a 1982 GMC Bluebird.

Anyone have any ideas how they may be getting in and how I can stop them? Obviously we've stopped keeping food and nest friendly paper products on board...

Thanks!

Lots of the Rvers use mothballs. Here just a few of the topics from a search on the Escapees forum (Mice). Maybe you can find something that will work on your mice.

Re: Mice - ARgh!

I've heard from those that have cabins will use a 5 gallon bucket with a string tied across the top of it holding a 20 once bottle. ( string through the center of the bottle long ways drill hole in the bottom. imagine a log roll competition ) bait the center rim of the bottle. Then fill the bucket up part way of antifreeze.

This is a winter method of storage. The antifreeze is used so it won't freeze and the dead mice that die in the bucket won't stick your rv either.
