Being an S series and V-8 I am presuming a 6.9l although more info would help can't tell by your description wether it is an automatic or manual transmission can't tell you much without knowing a few things. 6.9 l very reliable but in a non turbo configuration not highly powered.

7.3 idi and 6.9 idi are fairly similar engines. Both will be less then 200hp which is low compared to today's standards. The positive is that they run forever with basic maintenance taken care of.

Being a shorty, with that engine, you most likely have an at545. It's an alright trans but better options are available.

What else would you like to know?
