New here

Hi everyone,

I am just new and reading tons and feeling overwhelmed but excited at the same time.

I am really interested in converting a bus and thought that I could do it but after reading an electrical thread im really second guessing myself...

I am from canada and work as a nurse so no contracting, building, plumbing experience... so someone tell me i can still do this...

Electrical and plumbing can be as simple or as complicated as you want. You could just string an extension cord into the bus and have a power strip. Done! On the other hand, I've learned quite a bit about electrical and plumbing while building my bus and I'm now transferring that knowledge to remodeling work on my house. Some bus conversions are very basic though and people are perfectly happy with them.

Re: New here

I know how you feel chickadee! It seems really overwhelming, especially since we haven't done this before (I'm in your same boat). I'm a DIYer, but am feeling a little nervous too. BUT, nothing is earned without hard work and dedication. If you need any sort of positive encouragement, I feel like this is definitely the place to be.

Good luck!

Re: New here

Perhaps you should look at one that is already converted and then you can use it for a little while and then renovate it.

I'm with Rich, except there is one thing common-sense about having a bus: crashworthiness. Buses have been flipped over and even hit by Hummers and people come out with only bruises and some rattled nerves. Of course since you're a nurse I might be preaching to the chior.

I could digress far beyond the scope of this thread detailing how I tried to avoid being called crazy, weird, etc. (That'd be too much information anyway). Suffice it to say that some special people helped me embrace a little eccentricity. Enjoy driving to the beat of a different drummer in a skoolie!

Re: New here

Has anyone noticed that more women are posting on the forum lately? You guys are going to have to quit complaining that women don't understand the benefits of owning a skoolie.

We women make better bus drivers anyway, amiright?
If I did not already have a girlfriend, I might try finding one on Skoolie.net.

Don't ask me why I can remember this after 40 years: when I was in kindergarten, I took my first ride on a school bus and I'm pretty sure that the driver was a woman. I don't recall thinking one way or the other about her. My childhood innocence was yet to be tainted by exposure to chauvinism or prejudice.

On second thought...maybe it isn't unusual for a Skoolie to remember one's first ride on a school bus.

When I first heard negative comments (among male TV characters) about women drivers, I didn't understand them: Mom was very competent behind the wheel.
