New trend: "Upcycling"

One of the latest in trends - and trendy words - is upcycling: taking stuff that otherwise be thrown away and making something artful or useful out of it. Likely to be seen over and over again on HGTV and other interior-design media.

Three words came to mind when I first encountered this term: OLD SCHOOL BUS!

Re: New trend: "Upcycling"

You did your "In Focus" for this month! Idid mine on Friday.

Make a lamp shade from paint stir stick. Excess paint sticks! I'm doing good to get one stir stir per gallon. Forget getting enough to make.... a lamp shade!

Our bus is a massive "recycle" or "repurposed" . Former schoolbus, then became a whitewater rafting bus to transport rafters to/from the rivers, then we bought it and used it as a moving van, later to be converted into a residential vehicle. Is that "upcycling"?

Is there such a thing as "multicycling?" I love it!

Speaking of such, I ran across a Craigslist ad for a bus I like that had been used as a mobile workshop. Based on the wording of his ad (a little ambiguous) I'm hoping that he might have use for a smaller mobile workplace and offer to trade my Winnebago - including bringing my toolbox with me to remove the Winnie's interior (most of it, anyway) and throw it in the bus before having it hauled away.

I had to fight the temptation of a smart ass pun when my supervisor reminded us that it was "In Focus" time again by replying, "OK, I'll go to a Ford dealer this weekend." (He drives a Focus himself.)

They can call it whatever trendy thing they want. I call it being smart and thrifty.

I always called it being cheap and/or poor!

Re: New trend: "Upcycling"

Who knew, I've been "trendy" all of my life, I just thought I was too cheap to buy something for $5 when I could spend at least a week making it out of something else.

Booger...that sounds just like me
