Re: Question about county roads

Good information, vanguy, even if you did steal it . I'd just like to add that some counties in Indiana don't start the numbers from the center of the county. For instance, the "zeroes" in Franklin County are at the southeast corner, so all addresses there are north or west, and quickly run into 5 digits.

Re: Question about county roads

that's a way better system than they have here in lapeer county michigan. I worked here as a paramedic here for a lot of years. The zero line for the n/s roads is usually the railroad tracks which are near the center of the county. The tracks do not run in a perfectly straight line. There is not a zero line for east/west roads. Most county addresses change by 500 every mile. ie: a building with an address of 3000 main street would be 1 mile away from 3500 main street. Except for some cities and villages that have their own 3 digit numbering system. I once drove 15 minutes to an address of something like 220 calkins... only to find out that the calkins road i was driving towards only has 4 digit addresses.

Hadley township, where i live is pretty simple. All addresses change by the county standard 500/mile. the northern most border is 3000, the southern most is 6000. East to west also runs from 3000 to 6000. Knowing this information in a township that is only 36 square miles you can pretty much guess where a house is based on it's address without having to look at a map.

now i work in a different county, in washington township, mi. Fortunately we have some e/w roads that are actual mile roads. My fire station is on 30 mile road. 22 miles south of here is 8 mile road made famous by that eminem movie...8 mile happens to be the border for the city of Detroit.

our addresses here are all wacked out. southern most is about 57000 and the northern most is about 69000. East to west are are crazy, starting about 1900 and going to 15200. I don't go anywhere here without first consulting my map book! or having a good navigator.
