Question about Hot Intercom Wire

Hi all,

My bus came with a functioning intercom system (three phones), and the first in the system was wired directly to the battery (not key switched). I was thinking about trying to delete that wire ... but am not sure how to trace it back to the fuse panel. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Another thought I had was to use the wire for something -- it comes out over the driver's seat. Not sure what kind of disco light I could put on it or whatever ...

Howza bout something like this? 30 bucks on Amazon, and as long as you remember to switch it off, you won't run the battery down.

I temporarily wired one in for the drive home from Colorado to Illinois. It was the easiest way to plug in the GPS. Plus it was handy to have to voltmeter readout right there. Once I get around to working on the cockpit I'll mount it somewhere.....right now it's just kinda sitting.

You could also get a rear-view camera and power it from there. The one I got was like a hundred bucks and works pretty good (I'm not really used to having only side mirrors yet).

more cool ideas ... the back-up camera is totally on my list, and I'm not sure how I'll power it

The power draw of that little thing barely affects my motorcycle battery for weeks. It would take years to discharge two Group 31 batteries, as long as you don't leave things plugged into it and switched on.

Honestly, the self-discharge rate of the batteries will be much higher.

The power draw was my only concern ... but I think you're right: nothing to worry about!
