Replace Ceiling Hatch with Skylight?

Has anyone done this? Replaced one or both of the ceiling hatches with a sky light? The ones in a bus we’re looking at are leaking. I was thinking instead of replacing them, I could put in a skylight. (We will be converting the bus into an rv) Dumb idea or doable?

I've seen a few post where people have put skylights in. I bought a 18" x 26" that fits my hatch perfectly. Haven't installed it yet.
